October 1, 1899

Bisbee.

This morning I worked on duty for an hour, sitting with Chezz drinking a coffee. After a while, I decided to head to Black Diamond and see what I could find out.

Black Diamond.

I walked into a clothing store and saw Abby standing by the counter. “Hey there!”

“Hey Trin!”

“How are you?”

“I’m good thank you, and you?”

“I’m good... Thought I’d get started on some investigation... Do you know much about Kaly?”

“I remember her, she was a lot of fun,” Abby smiled as she handed me the meeting notes from today.

“Do you know if she was into anything... dangerous?” I asked.

“The only dangerous thing I know of was making soap.”

“Soap?”

“Yes, she made different soaps although her favorite was the lavender one.”

“What about Cym? Do you remember anything about her?”

“No, I can’t say I knew her,” Abby shook her head. “Kaly was mayor here when i got off the stage.”

“Bill showed us the two bridges over yonder that are connected with a crate of dynamite..”

“They are connected with dynamite?”

“Yeah, there’s a box there and Alex shot at it, ‘cause Bill told him to, and it blew up in between the bridges... Weird thing is... while we were standing there, the crate was pretty much reconstructed right before our eyes.”

“Ohh goodness. I had no idea. Now that is strange.”

“We were pretty shocked too. Bill was saying that the rumor is Cym’s ghost comes by and reconstructs it.”

“Well that could be, you never know what a spirit will do.”

“I don’t much believe in ghosts....” I shook my head.

“Well I didn’t used to either, but it’s one way to explain some things that happen,” Abby said.

“How, Abby? There’s gotta be a reasonable explanation. A dead person is dead, it’s done.”

“Well, God’s spirit is all around us so there could be others.”

“Well sure, I believe in the Holy Spirit... Have heard about that since I was a kid. But really... there are other spirits around? I just don’t know about that.”

“Well some things cant be explained away Trin... who knows maybe Cym and Kaly’s spirits are both here, they did love this town.”

“But... what happened to Kaly? I met her back in July. Something must have happened to her. Bill thinks it could be foul play of some sort...”

“People don’t just... disappear,” I sighed.

“Well I was at her trial one day and it was said that her soap making lab was hazardous and could explode at any time with the ingredients she used,” Abby raised her eyebrow.

“Oh?” I looked at her.

“She was accused of stealing soap from Cas, so he may know some information as well.”

“Ohhh I should talk to him for sure! That helps a lot..”

“She used Lye and oils and some other stuff i cant remember right off hand but if i do remember ill be sure to let you know right away,” she nodded.

“Thanks Abby. It’s good to know anything I can find out about either of them.”

“I’m glad I could help out Trin, and if I think of anything else.... Ohhh....wait... She liked to make people eat her soap too if they had a dirty mouth! Ask Cas about that too... he knows all too well.”

“Oh? I will definitely talk to him. Anyone else that you can think of that may remember anything about her?”

“Umm Doll might.”

“Good suggestion.”

“I’ll let ya get back to work here then. I’m gonna try to find some people,” I smiled.

“Anything to help Trin, and if i think of anything else I will come right to you,” Abby smiled and waved.

I waved and headed down the street.

Tombstone.

I walked down Allen Street and greeted Dallas who was sitting in front of the courthouse. “Dallas! Good to see you again! How are you?”

“Right as rain. How about yourself?” he shrugged.

“Oh out on the hunt for some information, you know... Detectiving and whatnot,” I smiled.

“Indeed I do.”

“Don’t suppose you’ve heard the names Kaly or Cym being talked about ‘round here...?”

He rubbed his chin and said, “I could not say that I have, but I’ll keep my ear to the ground.”

“I’d appreciate it. Looking into a couple of mysteries over in Diamond... Thought maybe conversations would spread over here too.”

Chantal walked out of Annie’s and we greeted one another as she walked over.

“If you should be in need of assistance just contact me and I will be honored to provide my services. I’m a man of many interests and talents. Not least of these is deductive reasoning and the art of investigation,” Dallas informed me.

“Oh thank you, Dallas. Right now I need to know as much as I can about these two women.”

“I’ll see what I can turn up,” Dallas leaned back in the chair.

“Appreciate it. They were both previous mayors of Diamond.” I turned to Chantal and asked,
“Chantal, you don’t know anything about Kaly or Cym, do ya?”

“Can’t remember having heard those names.”

“Thought I’d ask. You never know what you might turn up by just dropping a name to people.”

“Anything about them?”

“Looking for anything and everything at this point,” I shrugged. “They’re previous mayors of Diamond and I’m trying to track down anything I can.”

“You wouldn’t happen to have a description of them would you?”

“Was just wondering the same,” Chantal said.

“I only met Kaly once, and briefly, back in July around this spot actually. Can’t remember much about her description. Cym I don’t have anything on.”

“And you wanna track them for a special reason?” She asked.

“They’re both dead. Supposedly,” I nodded to her. “There’s two memorials in Diamond, one for each, and I wanna know why.”

“Hmm might be hard to find them then,” Chantal observed.

I chuckled and said, “I wanna know what happened is all.”

“Nothing in the town archives?” Chantal asked.

“So this search is purely academic? I’d start with the city records if I were you,” Dallas grinned.

“Legend has it Cym’s spirit is um... haunting around the town...” I started.

“Shouldn’t you be asking questions there instead of here?” Dallas asked.

“Tell me bout ghost stories - we got hundreds of them back hame - any castle and noble house is supposed tae have one.”

“Well sure, but many travel from town to town and there may have been conversation in surrounding areas,” I nodded.

“What has your search there turned up?” Dallas asked.

“I’ve only just begun. Figured I’d go where the people are,” I winked.

“Well, I don’t mean to tell you how to do your job, but usually you start off where the problem actually is and gather as much information there before you start chasing the goose out and around the farm. The answer may very well be a simple one that a little digging at the right spot will answer,” he looked at me.

“Of course... Thing is I’ve discovered about a trial that happened... and I figured it may have happened here. So that’s why I thought this would be a good place to start.”

“Well don’t let me stand in your way then.”

I heard someone walking behind me and turned to see Lacey. I asked her if her mom Skyla was around and she said that she had just gone off to take care of some things. I asked if she had seen Mr. Castion but she hadn’t seen him recently.

Bisbee/Tombstone.

I walked back into town ad started to work on duty. I passed Bree and a man she introduced as James in the street as they headed to Black Diamond. I decided to head back to Allen Street and browse around the library to see if there were records about Kaly’s trial there. When I arrived, I smiled, thinking back to when Alex and I had been there together. I’d wished he was around to join me today, but he was out conducting his business again. I found nothing about the trial in question so I headed back to Bisbee, knowing that I just would need to talk to Cas.
