December 16, 1899

Tombstone.

This morning before my set in Bisbee I walked down Allen Street and saw a man standing in front of the clinic. He tipped his hat and I smiled, walking over to him. “Hello there.”

“Good day to you,” he gave a friendly smile.

“Same to you. Gorgeous day out, isn’t it? Not too brisk.”

“It’s a fine day for sure. Hoping it stays that way, at least for a little while.”

“Would you like a cup?” he asked, sipping his coffee.

“I hear you. I’m from up north originally so this is a much welcomed change for winter. I’m Trin,” I sat down on the bench. “And I’d love a cup.”

“It’s nice to meet you Im Walker Luckless. I’ll go inside for another cup would you like to come in?”

“Oh we can stay outside,” I eyed the clinic. “Not too much a fan of this building. No offense.”

He nodded, “I can understand that. Some folks have rather unpleasant experience here I’m afraid.”

“I can wait outside for the drink though,” I smiled.

He went in and got a coffee as I greeted Dash walking by. The doctor came back out and handed me the cup and I said, “So you didn’t tell me your name.”

“It’s Walker Luckless,” he smiled.

“Ah, Walker... Nice to meet you, Sir. You work here at your clinic?”

“Yes I do. I’m a medical assistant here. Working towards being a doctor.”

“Oh well congratulations. I hope that it works out for you!” I sipped the coffee and said, “This is good coffee.”

“Thanks, I appreciate it. So may I ask what you do?”

“I’m a detective,” I smiled. “Not that it does me much good lately. Things have been awfully quiet around here lately.”

“Oh I know what you mean. I seem to miss everything. Apparently last night I arrived in town just after all the excitement died down.”

“Excitement?” I perked, looking at him curiously.

“Yes I heard something about ....” he smiled as a dog passed by us.

“Something about...?” I prompted him.

“Oh about there being a lot of doctors and medical staff being needed.”

“Oh really? Did you hear what happened?”

“Not sure on the details.”

“Hmm...”

Pet walked over and waved to us and we waved back as Walker said, “I’m guessing it was here but it’s vague.”

“Pet you hear about any of this?” I looked over at her.

“Any of what? I just got here.”

“Why so many doctors were needed last night.”

“Must have happened just before I got in town.”

“A shootin’? But that’s just a guess,” Pet shrugged.

“A good one,” Walker nodded.

“Well ya’ll are helpful,” I winked at Walker.

“I was all over the county lookin’ at decorations. Bree was telling me a little about it this morning. She was there,” Pet reached down and pet the dog.

“There are some lovely decorations. Folks have made an effort this year its nice to see,” Walker agreed.

“Ah I see. She didn’t mention anything when I saw her over in Bisbee. By the way... I’m playing over there in an hour. Hope ya’ll will be there?”

“I’ll be there,” Pet smiled.

“Oh, you’re a performer?”

“You coming Walker? Trin sings like an angel,” Pet told him.

“Mmhmm,” I nodded to him. “I sing and play piano.”

“How wonderful! I’ll be sure and try to make my way over.”

“Fantastic!” I smiled.

“Bisbee isn’t far anyway.”

“Nope it ain’t that much of a walk.”

“You won’t be disappointed, Walker.”

“Trin, about the engagement for Chez Paradise. When you have a moment, I’d like to discuss it.”

“Engagement?” I looked over at her.

“Singing engagement I mentioned yesterday, or maybe the day before.”

“Oh right yes, singing...” I chuckled. “Right we can talk about that later. I don’t know how many Christmas songs I’ll do today... Kind of getting Christmased out already, is that crazy?”

“Well, it’s for the clergy caroling. So yeah, we’ll talk. But the sooner the better ‘cause I’ll need to inform BrotherD.”

“Right yes, for sure. That I’ll be doing Christmas for... I just meant today might be less Christmas unless it’s requested,” I winked.

“Ohh I understand completely. I haven’t even begun shopping. I’m just not quite in the mood yet. So I’ll probably have to scrounge around in a flurry on Christmas Eve. Can you imagine, I haven’t even sent out my cards yet? Geesh.”

“Yeah I’m having a hard time with that this year too. How about you, Walker? Do you like this time of year?” I looked over at him.

“Yea the holidays come and go like a blur it seems,” he laughed.

“Sommer, how are you this season? In or out of the spirit?” Pet asked her.

“Well I’ve never been overly enthused about it but I try to enjoy Christmas,” Walker said.

“I am in the spirit..so much snow at my place... I am knee deep in it,” Sommer said. “Kinds makes you feel all warm and cuddly.”

“I know, you’re right across the road from me,” Pet chuckled.

“Like cocoa and cinnamon toast.”

“I thought that was this good coffee,” I winked at Walker and he grinned.

We talked about the different goodies Pet would bring to my gig, and then headed to Bisbee.
