January 23, 1900

Tombstone.

“Morning ma’am. Welcome to the Tombstone Bank and Trust,” Chase greeted me I walked into the bank this morning.

“Good morning, Chase. How are things in here?”

“Fine just fine. And how is your day going miss?”

“Been pretty slow to be honest... Thought I’d come in and see if you needed any help with figurin’ anything out bank-wise... No strange intruders or activity goin’ on lately I guess...”

He tapped his chin while he stared off pondering for a moment. “Nothing that comes to mind this mornin’. Though there has been an odd amount of robbery attempts this week. Them damned Gangs, let me tell ya...”

“Different gangs or more of the same one? That’s rather intriguing that there are so many attempts... Glad they’ve mostly been thwarted though.”

“I think it’s been two of the bigger ones coming back at different times. Still waiting fer them to accidentily run into eachother and have a big shootout” he chuckled a bit at the thought before sliding the donut box closer towards me. “By all means, help yerself.”

I chuckled a bit and takes one of the donuts, enjoying having something to talk about. “Which gangs are they, if you know details?”

“Uh... I’m perdy sure the Wild Bunch is one of them. Not too sure about the other, but I have seen the faces around before” he slowly began to shake his head. “What ever happened to the good old days when criminals wore masks in fear of being recognized?”

“I know, right? Made our jobs more interesting, the hunt for the truth... I’ve been so bored lately though that I’ll take whatever case comes my way. I don’t like the idea of you being caught up in so much at the bank though.... A man deserves to have a peaceful day at work, ya know?”

“The place comes with its good days and its bad. Whenever theres a stream of boredom, something always seems to be just around the corner.” He glanced over my badge to see what sort it was. “A Pinkerton hm? If you got so little work these days, maybe you ought to think about switching over to local law enforcement. We certainly could use a few more Deputies around here, I tell ya.”

“I’ve been there and done that...” I shook my head. “Bit too much pressure. Me, I like the joy of the hunt, the search for the truth, without the responsibility of arrestin’ the criminals. I get my justice when I prosecute them in court and they’re found guilty.”

“Well,” I said in the silence, “I reckon I’m going to go find something to drink to wash down this donut. Thanks for your time, Chase.”

He gave a slow nod, glancing back up from his papers before I headed out of the bank. “You have a fine day now ma’am.”
