January 6, 1900

Tombstone.

I walked down the street and saw David standing in front of Kate’s and waved to him. “Hello, David.”

“Hey Trin.”

“Have you heard anything about your case going to trial yet?” I asked, waving to Lisa as she walked off towards Diamond.

“No date set that I know of,” David struggled to carry a cup of coffee and three law books.

“I heard that Jewel shot you for it all though. You alright?”

“Yeah shot me in my gut pretty close range but didn’t hit anything major.”

“Glad you made it out of that okay. Guess you don’t need my help with that case no more, huh?”

“Yeah,” he laughed. “I’m not sure how the legal stuff works on that, actually been looking at these law books to find out.”

“Oh have ya? How so?”

“I mean if I try to shot her then she shots me aint we even?”

“Seems so, yep. Case closed then,” I smiled at him.

“But seein’ as how my case already in the works, also I talked with that Apache Fawn the night Jewel shot me seems that tea she gives don’t go to well with whiskey. I got shot the day before I threatened Jewel and drank that tea stuff.”

“Seems like you’ve got it all figured out then.”

“Then had all that whiskey. Yeah the whole thing really bothered me couldn’t sleep for three days. Last night first good sleep I had.”

“I’m glad. You can move on now.”

“Yeah, but I got looking at these law books for my own case and I tell you I think I found my calling.”

“Oh have ya?”

“Yup I’m thinking on becoming a prosecuting lawyer.”

“Well that would be great!” I smiled. “We need some good lawyers ‘round here.”

“I helped Judge Jimmi on a case just presenting the report and it was awful interesting.”

“Right, the trial for Billi... I saw that in the telegrams. How’d that turn out?”

“I guess I prosecuted well cause the jury found him guilty.......so thats why I think I should learn some more about the law.”

“That’s great to hear, David. Good to focus on something productive like that.”

“Well I like working for Miss Bay but she don’t pay real well, and I think this may earn more.”

“I understand.”

“...and this town need some cleaning up too.”

“Mmhmm.”

“So where you off to today?”

“Well, seems like I ain’t needed much for this whole thing with you.... You’ve got that pretty much sorted.”

“I do want to thank you for what you have done. How’s your day been?”

“Pretty quiet to be honest. Not really much exciting happening in my life right now.”

“I see. It’s pretty nice to have those days sometime.”

“Not when those days seem to be every day,” I sighed.

“Yeah can get kinda boring, after the whole Jewel thing I’m looking forward to a little boring for at least a day or two. Well if ya’ ain’t busy maybe you’d like to join me at Kate’s for a few? I’m staying away from the whiskey but there’s coffee that only tastes about a day old.”

“I should check my office for any new telegrams and then head to Diamond. Still need to find out who put a hit on Dash. And I need to figure out who this darned kissing bandit is, though I’ve got a pretty good idea I just ain’t sure how to prove it.”

“Probably the whole damn time,” he laughed.

“I’ll see you around, David. Hopefully in Bisbee in a couple hours?”

“Yeah I’m looking forward to it, if its ok I probably show up early.”

“Have a good afternoon then,” I said, heading to the office.

I sat down at my desk and read the telegram from Devin saying that they had discovered that Jack and Sommer were indeed responsible for the bank robbery on the 30th. I smiled and marked the case closed, putting it in the proper filing cabinet.

Bisbee.

This afternoon I played for an hour at the Stock Exchange and then looked over to see Mysti dancing with David. I knew I needed to talk to her about the case I was working but didn’t want to interrupt her dance. I looked over and said, “So Mysti, I hear that you met the kissing bandit.”

“Oh I heard he a terrible fellow,” David pointed out.

“What have you heard, David?” I asked.

“Just that he robs then kisses the ladies.”

“Nothin’ about his identity perhaps?”

“Yeah he tried to get to me and I kicked him where the sun don’t shine and he ran off holding his treasure,” Mysti finally answered.

“Nah, ‘cause he ain’t robbed or kissed me. Not that I’m looking for that kinda thing.”

I nodded to Mysti and confirmed, “I heard Dash was with you?” I looked over and heard Ella and a woman talking in the corner and the woman introduced herself as Kori. I filed the information away and focused on the conversation with David and Mysti. “Mysti... What can you tell me about this guy? What did he look like?”

“Well he had bad breath, Trin,” Mysti chuckled. “And he had no protection where I kneed him.”

“Was he wearing weapons?” I nodded.

“He had a gun ‘cause he hit Dash in the head with the gun. He threatened us with the gun.”

“Okay,” I nodded that her story was lining up with Dash’s. “What about face features? Hair? Eyes?”

Mysti looked at David and said, “I think I’d like to get a drink. Will you join me?”

“Mysti? Features of his appearance?” I looked at her and tried to gain his attention.

“Mysti thank you for the dance. Yes I’d like that very much,” David said to her. “What’ll you have?”

David and Mysti walked over to the counter and ordered beverages while I stood in the background, feeling ignored. Eventually Mysti laughed and looked at me. “Aww Trin, I’m sorry hon. I just don’t remember what he looked like. I was so shocked when he came at us.”

“It’s okay. As long as we know it ain’t Dash... Cause he was with you and your stories match,” I nodded. “Alright I’ll let ya’ll have fun. Have a good evening and thanks for coming!” I waved and headed out of the saloon.
