October 7, 1899

Bisbee.

As I sat in front of the office while on duty, I saw a man walking over to the saloon. I walked over to him and greeted him.

“I seem to have lost my brother,” he said. As I looked at him, I recognized him as Bill’s brother, who I had met at the Stock Exchange when he’d been celebrating the return of Bill after he’d been hidden in the mine. “One minute I’m talking to him and the next he disappears on me.”

“You’re Bill’s brother, right?” I asked.

“Yup, that’s him.”

“That’s awfully strange... You’ve looked around Diamond?”

“I guess he walks fast.”

“Guess so,” I chuckled.

“I have. I’ve looked everywhere.”

“I usually see him around Diamond... Not sure where else to suggest...”

“It’ll be fine. I’ll look around all the towns but it’ll take me a while.”

“Sure. I’ll let you know if I run into him. Good to see you again, Thad.”

“Thank you, and nice to meet you also.”

“Actually we met once here before in Bisbee. At the saloon. You may not remember though... You were a tad... um... celebratory?”

“Oh yeah, I was happy. I got married.”

“Bill had just been recovered from the mine too , as I recall.”

“That too.”

“Anyone discover what happened with that?”

“The outlaws did it.”

“Figure out which ones?”

“Don’t know which ones though.”

“Hm... I guess it happened too long ago to bring the investigation back up. Reckon I could talk to Bill about it though. That case had left me curious.”

“You could finish that work.”

“Whoever finds him first will let the other know then?” I winked.

“Yes ma’am. I will.”

“Sounds great. Be safe out there, Thad.”

“I will and thank you too.”

“Will do my best.”

I went to sit back in front of my office and then an hour later waved to a woman walking past. “Hi there!”

“Howdy.”

“Deputy Trin Paige. Don’t think we’ve met.”

“Nope, can’t say as we have. Name’s Angelica.”

“Angelica, a pleasure. New in the area?”

“Been in town a few weeks now. Haven’t made it to Bisbee yet. Thought I would come to the area.”

“It’s a cute little town... I happen to be biased about how great it is,” I smiled.

“I take it you’re local law here?”

“Yes ma’am, I’m a deputy here. Also a detective.”

“A deputy and a detective. I can’t see it bein’ so busy here as to need both.”

“I’m a detective everywhere... it allows me to explore a bit when it’s quiet around here,” I shrugged. “What kind of work do you do?”

“I don’t, at least not yet.”

“Well there’s lots of opportunities around,” I smiled.

“Oh wonderful. Sure is quiet.”

“It’s nice to have other folks around town though. I’ll let you wander the town,” I smiled.

“Take care then,” she turned and walked away and I headed to Black Diamond.

Black Diamond.

I walked into Diamond and waved to Libby in front of the saloon. “The meeting still gonna be happening over at Bill’s?”

“I believe so, yes...”

“Great. How are things with you?”

“They are simply magnificent! And yourself?” Libby smiled brightly.

“Keepin’ busy I reckon. Still confused about this whole gang war nonsense but hoping to get to the bottom of it.”

“That’s a tough knot to untangle, ma’am... just you be careful and don’t get yerself in a spot ya can’t get outta,” Libby nodded.

“I’m afraid I’ll get to the point where I know too much and I won’t have anyone ‘round to protect me. Alex does a lot of business out of town so I’m often on my own...”

“Well, not sure if it’s an option, but maybe keepin’ someone like Miss Nim, or Ryker in the loop... when Alex isn’t around... least you’d have another law person around to have yer back.”

“Yeah... I have Ryker and Matty very well informed for the most part. And I’d hope they would keep me in the loop if anything new happened.”

“I’m sure they would... they are very thoughtful like that, leastwise from what I’ve seen.”

“Well I guess we should head over to Bill’s, eh?”

“Yes ma’am... that’s a good idea.”

“Let’s go then,” I smiled.

We headed to the house and met with the others. After we were finished the meeting Alex and I went to the saloon and danced before I did my gig at the Stock Exchange.
