Black Diamond.
This morning I walked into the cafe and saw Alex and Aly sitting at a table together talking. Alex said he was telling Aly about how Matty didn’t like him very much.
“So, Trin, your ribs feeling any better?” Alex asked me.
“I guess,” I shrugged and sipped my coffee slowly.
“You okay?” he looked over at me.
I shook my head and he reached over to pat my shoulder. “I’ve had too much time to think... I forced myself to stay in bed yesterday and I guess my ribs feel better but the rest of me... not so much.”
“You want a splash of whiskey in that?” Alex offered his flask and I nodded, pouring some whiskey into the cup.
“Thanks. I just... I don’t know. I need... something. I’m not sure what.”
“Time. Unfortunately, I think that’s the only thing that will really help,” he answered.
“I need something good to happen,” I looked at him. “Something to take my mind off the fact that I can’t even keep a horse alive let alone a man around for more than a few months... If that...” I sighed and drank my coffee.
“No, Trin, don’t think that way. There was nothing you did wrong for Watson,” Alex assured me.
“Trin I think what you need is a break,” Aly suggested.
I looked at her and said, “What I need is to focus on something. A case, something. A break is what got me in this mood in the first place. Did you and Ger go to the mines yet?” I looked at Alex.
“No, I haven’t been to the mines yet,” he shook his head.
“Has Ger even been around?”
“I didn’t see him yesterday,” Alex replied.
“I haven’t seen Ger...and speaking of people not being around, Trin...” Aly said. “Do you remember telling me that message to give Tye? Well I havent’ seen him in two days to tell him. Last I saw Ger was when we went to the farm two days ago.”
“Wonder what’s up with the sheriff...”
“Dunno, maybe he’s brooding about his burned work place. I would. I brood.”
“Coffee was one of the best discoveries ever,” Alex noted then.
“Amen to that,” I agreed.
“Oh me too actually,” Aly smiled. “I agree with that comment 100%. I’d take it over whiskey any day.”
“You need a warm up Trin?” Alex took Aly’s cup and got herself a refill.
“Cold coffee, however, is nasty,” she pointed out.
“I don’t mind it cold if it’s meant to be cold. Like on ice. But when it was warm and goes cold... yeah that is nasty.”
“You know what I was thinking....” I looked between them.
“What?” Alex asked.
“I want to get a new horse. I’m gonna name it Phoenix. Like he’s rising from the ashes...”
“That’s a great name,” Alex smiled. “When you’re ready, I’ll go with you to pick one out if you want.”
“I want he same kind.”
“I bet we can find a good one.”
“I think that’s what I need to do today. I need to move forward, rise above, something.”
“You do. And that is a very good attitude to have, and Trin, I think I’m no that page too. The moving forward one,” Aly smiled.
“That’s the best approach,” Alex nodded. “ Moving forward is sometimes the hardest thing to do, but you’ll feel so much better once you do.”
I stood, not wanting to wait. “I need to get back on a horse. That’s my problem. I feel like I’m missing a limb. I’ve been around horses my whole life. To not have one... I think that’s what’s killing me this morning.”
“Are your ribs okay to do that?” Alex asked.
“They feel a lot better today. All that rest yesterday helped.”
“Good,” he nodded with understanding.
“Trin don’t get ON the horse if you ain’t ready for it,” Aly told me. “Just pick one out or something.”
“I don’t mean to end your coffee time...” I looked at her.
“No it’s ok, I should get changed and get back on the roof. I’m done here.”
“You fall off we’re gonna have issues,” I winked at her.
“Ahem,” she chuckled. “The only thing I worry about... is having jewel come by and removing my ladder.”
“Let’s go get a horse,” I looked at Alex.
We walked out to the stables and looked at all of the horses waiting to be owned. “This feels better already,” I smiled.
“I’m glad to see you do this,” Alex smiled.
“I’ve been around them my whole life, Alex... I can’t let a fall....” I shook my head and started to look at the different horses.
“I was really worried about you. Seemed odd to see you so scared of them.”
“I was scared of the fall more than of them.”
“It is scary. But the only cure is to get back up there,” he nodded as he examined the horses. “See any you like?”
I found one that looked exactly like Watson and said, “Look, Alex! It’s just like him!”
“He’s great!” Alex smiled widely and looked him over, checking his teeth and hooves and running his hand along his flank. “Looks good an healthy too.”
I pet the horse and felt like I was at home again. “This is the one, Alex.”
“You better take him home then.”
I went over to pay the stable owner and paid for the horse.
“Feel more complete?” Alex asked. “I know I’d feel naked without my horse.”
“You’re gonna work out just fine, Phoenix,” I nuzzled against the horse.
Looking over at Alex I asked, “It’s too soon to ride him, isn’t it?”
“Depends on how you feel, Trin. If you’re not too sure, try sitting on him. You won’t want to be on too long.”
“Help me up?” I nodded and looked at him.
He gave me a hand up and grinned, “I’m right here so you’re safe.”
I sat on top of Phoenix and smiled wide, looking over at Alex. “I feel like I’m flying!”
“I am so happy to hear you say that!” he laughed. “Don’t trot though, too much jarring there. Just a slow easy walk.”
“Get up on Leo... I want to go for a short ride.”
“Nice and easy now,” he said as he got up on his horse. We rode slowly back home and Alex looked over at me with a smile, “You’re doing great!”
When we got home I climbed off the horse and looked over at Alex. “I feel so much better!”
“Whole again, huh?” he smiled and I reached over to hug him, nodding. “Well, Trin, I gotta go look in on a patient. I’m glad you found a new horse.”
“Thank you, Alex.”
“You’re welcome. Be careful! You don’t know him yet. And I don’t want to have to fix you up again.”
“Yes sir,” I nodded and he rode off with a wave. I rode over to Aly’s and showed her my horse and then headed home again to rest.
***
I walked outside a couple hours later and found Sponkey and told him about my new horse. We walked down the street and I saw Krell standing on the balcony of the courthouse. I waved him down and introduced him to Sponkey.
“So it’s been a while since we’ve talked about the mysterious cake, Krell...” I started hesitantly. We’ve been looking into it and have a few leads on some stuff but I need a bit of help from you.”
“That cake well, it looked so good. How can I help?”
“The fudge cake... You have no idea who baked it, do you?”
“Well, I asked Leigh to make a cake, but if you know Leighs cooking, well... no need to say more. Peta told me she felt that the Sheriff could use a chocolate cake, and I told Leigh but like I said she cant cook, So, of course I asked Bree to make one, she did, and I put it in my home.”
“It looked good, I wanted to eat it but I didn’t.”
“Well that’s interesting... Bree told me that she didn’t make it.”
“I am sure the finger prints in the icing had to be from someone else.”
“See here’s the problem with fingerprints in this case...”
“Howdy Trin, Krell and Sponkey,” Bree walked over then and we greeted her.
“So anyway I took the cake over to the sheriff’s office. And later that night, I noticed a piece was missing, so I just figured I would go over the the sheriffs office and have me a slice. I mean it was a big cake.”
“Excuse me. I heard about cake I was there as Krell found cake. And yes he liked the icing a lot,” Bree told us.
“Did you bake the cake, Bree?” I asked.
“Anyway, I actually had 2 slices, you know Bree makes a fine cake,” Krell continued.
“Oh I thought the other cake what you meant. I sorry,” Bree looked at me. “Oh no, I sure did not.”
I looked at Krell and said, “See? Bree didn’t bake the cake that was poisoned.”
“And well, then I just remember waking up laying on the floor, and the sheriff trying to wake me. I had bite marks on my arm and leg too, there were wild wolves that night in town,” he explained.
“I was not even around that night,” Bree said.
“Well, Bree I did ask you to bake a cake, and you gave me the chocolate nut cake, I do remember that,” Krell looked at her and I folded my arms, looking between them as their stories didn’t match as usual.
“I know because Leigh said she cant bake one and I needed one,” Krell said.
“Yes sir I did bake that one. Is that the bad one???” she blinked.
“Well Bree, I don’t know,” Krell admitted.
“Yes Leigh rotten baker,” Bree agreed. “When I bake I use the freshest ingredients money can buy.”
“Is it possible that Leigh got a cake that Bree had made and claimed she baked it herself?” I wondered.
“It had to be your cake, I wont eat anyone else, but I did leave the cake in my house the night before, I didn’t give the sheriff the cake till the next day. Leigh thought the cake looked good. You know how much she loves The sheriff, and when I told her the cake was for Tye, well, her eyes lit up; she was so happy we could give him such a wonderful cake.”
“I cautioned Krell not eat any food from his house. I deliver it to them.”
“Well Trin, if Leigh cooked it, I wouldn’t eat it.”
“Then why tell her to bake a cake, Krell?” I looked at him.
“No and excuse me sir she may be your wife but I don’t trust her,” Bree said.
Leigh really admired the cake, se seemed to pay special attention to it, I told her she couldn’t have any.”
“Okay let me get this straight...” I started.
“Well, Trin, have you ever told your partner they cant cook?” Krell asked me.
“Yeah I see her mind racing when she goes in bakery,” Bree said.
“People tell me I can’t cook all the time,” I chuckled. “Why do you think I eat out all the time?”
“It’s not a smart thing to do, so I always am polite to Leigh, but everyone knows she doesn’t know how to bake,” Krell said. “But the cake was so good, I just had to have two slices. That’s how I know Leigh couldn’t have made it.”
“Krell, you told Leigh to bake a cake. You saw the cake in the sherif’s office and figured it was one of Bree’s so you ate it...”
“No, I asked Leigh if she would bake me a bake, but I knew she would say know, I told Leigh that Peta said I should give Tye a chocolate cake and then I asked Bree to bake it.”
“I am always baking for Krell. I like to indulge his wants,” Bree said.
“Bree brought it to me.”
“But Bree doesn’t remember making a poisoned cake. So somehow someone got ahold of one of Bree’s cakes from her bakery and put poison in it without her knowing and you found it in the sheriff’s office... That sound about right?”
“Bree made a wonderful cake,” Krell said.
“Ya know I never harm a soul much less use poison.,” Bree said.
“She brought it over the night before and I left it in my house, trying to keep Leigh away from it,” Krell said.
“Ohhh okay so...”
“She looked like she wanted to eat it, and I know she knew it was for Tye and so we could not enjoy Bree’s fine cake,” Krell said.
“Bree made a cake for Tye. Left it in your place.”
“Anyway...” Krell went on. “I took it to the sheriffs office the next night.”
“And never drink any teas from your house. I wanted house examined too for bad stuff,” Bree said.
“So it was in your house for a night and then you took it over to Tye’s office.”
“Yes Bree gave it to me and I kept it in my house all night,” Krell said.
“I mean heck she keeps a dang rat for a pet. I find this disgusting,” Bree shook her head.
Leigh walked over and they continued to talk about the pet rat. I thanked Krell and Bree for talking to me and then Krell went inside to work on something with Leigh close behind. Ger walked over and I told him that I got a new horse.
“Ger, maybe you should go after Leigh and talk to her about the cake? She came over after my conversation with Krell which was very interesting.”
“We still talking about that cake?” Aly asked as she walked over.
“Good idea...” Ger nodded.
“Apparently Bree made the cake for Tye and gave it to Krell. They had it in their house overnight, then Krell gave the cake to Tye’s office,” I told him. “Gives Leigh plenty of opportunity. Let me know how it goes.”
“See you later then...Sponkey, nice to have met you,” Ger nodded to him and headed into the courthouse.
Lil walked over and I suggested that we go over to the saloon to get a drink while I waited for Ger to return from his interview. We sat at the bar and Paisley soon joined us and talked about how Sponk was new to town. We talked about the dance last night and how Aly was dancing with TJ. I shook my head at that, hoping it didn’t turn into anything serious because I knew how TJ was with women.
When they asked Sponk how his time had been in town so far he said, “Although I have seen some natives watching me a lot lately.”
“Natives?” I looked at him.
“Be careful around here,” Lil said. “They would take your scalp in a heart beat.”
“Only if he harms their family somehow,” I shook my head. “You guys need to remember... they’ll leave us alone if we leave them alone.”
“I hear anything that even SOUNDS like a native, I’m hiding under my bed,” Aly said and looked at me. Well Trin my brother use to tell me the scary stories....I never really got over them.”
“When their families are harmed? Yeah they’re scary,” I nodded. “But if we live in peace and harmony with each other...”
“Well I have enough sense to leave well enough alone,” Aly said.
“I went to there village the other evening to check on my cousin,” Lil explained. “I got hit in the head with a tomahawk and tied up and put in a cage.”
“Oh my!” Paisley exclaimed.
“Did you announce you were on their land?” I looked at her. “Did you wear a weapon when you went over there?”
“I asked permission to enter,” Lil said. “And no, I didn’t even have my frying pan.”
“Still... you went over there.”
“How did you escape?” Aly asked.
“That’s like going to Ghenna and asking the outlaws if you can enter,” I told Lil. “Just avoid the area and you’ll be fine. They won’t see you as a threat if you don’t approach their land.”
“Uncle Lucas traded his three best horses for me,” Lil said.
“I have their trust after the trial of the chief, but I still do not dare go,” Paisley said.
“This is why I won’t step foot near there and resort to hiding under my bed,” Aly said. “He should have not done that.. I would have stayed and talked them to death,” Lil put in.
“Lil, that’s dangerous,” Aly shook her head.
“They would have got tired of me talking,” she giggled.
“They are going to take that as an argument and hostile,” Aly looked at her.
“I just talked to them in cherokee,” Lil giggled.
“Oh... Still, I’m not that brave,” Aly admitted and I sighed a bit. “Are you alright?”
I shrugged and said, “I’m fine.”
“Why cherokee? They are Apache,” Paisley pointed out.
“I speak Cherokee,” Lil said. “Then they don’t know I am calling them names.”
“But they don’t speak Cherokee... They speak Apache,” Paisley said.
“Wait you talk Cherokee to the Apache? Wouldn’t that get them even more offended?” Aly asked and then looked at me. “Trin I know you ain’t fine, your my best friend. I can tell these things.”
I pulled out my notebook, feeling less comfortable with this conversation. I gave Aly a look saying I didn’t want to talk about it.
“But they may not understand Cherokee,” Paisley said. “Or want to hear it.”
“Anyone need a refill?” Aly offered.
“That is the only reason I used it,” Lil said. “I called the war chief a donkey.’
“Yeah that’s the thing. If then were to even recognize the language, they might get more mad. Would you want to be assumed you were a law if you were an outlaw or vice versa? I wouldn’t,” Aly blinked at Lil.
I stood then, setting the unfinished cup of coffee on the counter, and said, “See you guys later.”
I walked out of my office, hoping the conversation between Leigh and Ger would get them somewhere. Aly called for me but I leaned forward to try and concentrate. I didn’t want to talk about the Natives the way they all were in the saloon. It was always a hard topic for me and I constantly felt between two worlds. I took out my father’s medal and rubbed it with my thumb, thinking over the past year and shaking my head. I slipped it back into my pocket and leaned my head on my desk, trying to calm down.
Looking up, I saw Aly and Sponk walk into the office and I knew I couldn’t escape for long.
“Please tell me you aren’t upset with something I did?” Aly looked at me with concern.
“I’m fine,” I insisted.
“Everything alright here folks?” Sponk asked with worry.
“Detective Trin, I know it’s not,” Aly prodded.
I folded my arms across my chest and leaned back. “I don’t like people talking about my heritage like that. They didn’t listen to a word I was saying. I told them not to go out to the Native land and things would be fine. I told them that Natives are only violent when their family is threatened... I don’t know why I bothered to talk at all.”
Ger walked into the office then and I looked over at him. “How did it go?”
“Trin it’s not that people don’t listen,” Aly insisted. “People think what they want. We hear the stories, rumors....”
“Got her to talk,” Ger replied.
“You did? What’d she say?” I asked, focusing on him.
He gave me a knowing look and sat at his desk, working away on his report. I nodded and looked over at Sponkey. “Sponk, you been staying at the hotel?”
“Ger I’m about to take that door over there down. My knees are bruised from every time I come in here,” Aly told Ger.
“Yeah, I have for the last night or two. Planning on heading out though soon to further explore,” Sponk nodded.
“You’ll get no arguments from me,” I nodded to Aly and smiled at Sponk. “Maybe I can come with you and get used to Phoenix more... Might help find you a place nearby.”
“That hotel is a good place to stay when you first arrived. I stayed there a good week and a half while I got my bearings,” Aly said.
“Yeah you always could do that,” Sponk smiled.
“That room on the bottom floor. I think there was a saloon girl staying there before me. She l eft some clothing. I waited for her to come back and get it, but never did. So they are mine now,” Aly giggled.
“You know my history with the natives. I hate when people don’t give them a fair chance just because of some past tales of their violence. If we leave them alone, they’ll leave us alone,” I looked at her.
“I know,” she nodded. “And I believe that.”
“So when they start talking like that, I leave.”
“But you have to understand...that most people do NOT have a history with them... and they are set in their ways of thinking. T hat’s true for me too. They scare me. I’ve heard war cries.”
“Then they should respect me for what I’m saying and not just ignore me.”
“I can understand....people get excitable when they’re stuck with what they’re talking about. I heard you, and I respect you. Trin I talked to Tye today.”
“Yeah?”
“Told him what you told me about Pearce. He was glad to hear.”
“About the arsenic being able to be found in the mines,” I nodded.
“Also Leigh said something about me being a witness in the case with her. I never saw anything with that, and Tye confirmed I’m not a witness for it. I was really hard to not get distracted. Yes that.”
“Yeah... I’m curious to see if any trials happen this weekend.”
“Yeah I think Tye mentioned there were some with Jewel.”
“Ger have you seen Ada lately?” Aly asked him.
“No, in fact I haven’t seen her since we returned.”
“I just saw her that one time in Tombstone while you guys were still away,” I added.
“I hope she’s not getting into trouble.”
I blinked as a telegram came through and went to read it. I looked over at Ger and said, “Deputy in Benson has been poisoned. Do you mind if I head out there and see if he needs our help?”
“Want company Trin?” Aly offered.
“Probably shouldn’t go alone. But he might need our help.”
“I can come. If nothing else for an errand girl,” she grinned.
“There were gunshot wounds too. Can let you finish your report and join us when you’re done, Ger?”
“Go ahead..” he half nodded.
“Whoever’s coming with, let’s ride out,” I said to the others and went out to mount Phoenix. I forced myself to ride slowly as I led the way to Benson.
Benson.
I dismounted Phoenix and started to look around town. I walked into the clinic and saw Mysti working away on a wounded sheriff. “Howdy folks. I saw the telegram and rode over. Don’t think we’ve met, Sir.”
“Sheriff TJ Finch,” he nodded to me.
“Detective Trin Paige. Nice to meet you. He going to be alright, Mysti?”
“Some cookies where no good some one brought me,” TJ told me.
Mysti lay her instruments out on the table and inspected the sheriff’s right lower arm, then turned to me. “He says he shot himself, Trin.”
“Shot himself?” I blinked at the sheriff.
“Was cleaning my guns.”
“Uh huh... And these cookies were sent to you?”
“He says!” Mysti shook her head.
“Yes. Someone brought me cookies.”
“Where did they leave them?”
“On my chair outside the office.”
“Well that’s awfully curious.”
“How’s the wound look, doctor?” he asked Mysti and then told me, “I love cookies.”
“You are lucky it went right thru so a few stitches and you will be ok. How are you for pain sheriff? Do you want anything? It may cloud your clear thinking for a bit,” Mysti washed the wound.
“Yes pain meds. You think the cookies where poisoned?” TJ asked.
“Sheriff, do you want my help in determining who left you these cookies? You made anyone mad lately?” I asked.
“She left a not with her name.”
“Your call, but clouded thinking could lead to eating poisoned cookies,” Mysti reached for some laudanum and handed it to him.
“A note with her name?” I blinked at him. “Guess you don’t need my help then.”
“Teela.”
“So you don’t need us looking into it further then.”
“Nope.”
“Alright. I wanted to ride out and see... The word ‘poisoned’ caught my attention.”
“Thank goodness I have so many buddies,” he smiled.
“Mmhmm. We’re around if you need us, Sheriff.”
I walked outside and found Sponkey and Aly waiting for me. We walked around town and looked in the saloon. I went over to play the piano but my ribs hurt from the movement of playing the lower and higher notes.
Black Diamond.
We decided to head home and saw a man wearing a badge but didn’t recognize him. He introduced himself as Johnny Grey and I noted his name as I headed into the office to find Ger.
“How’s that report, Ger?” I asked as I sat down at his desk.
“Done, done and done.”
“Can I see?” I smiled.
“Okay...” he flipped through his papers. “Okay, here is my conversation with Mysti...”
I took the report and read it over: “I went to Mystical Dream to find out information on Arsenic and if there was any in the clinic and if records were kept. As we talked, I was reminded of the medicinal uses for the chemical. Late in January, Miss Mystical indeed brought 20 packets of the chemical, in powdered form, with her from her trip to Boston, MA. Together, we went to the clinic where Miss Mystical opened the locked cabinet, inspected the contents to find that there were five packets of the chemical missing. I examined the cabinet, seeing that it was a well used one, the doors were sturdy and the lock strong. The cabinet showed no signs of tampering. Miss Mystical gave me a packet of the chemical to test and compare to the evidence.”
“Nice, you got a sample packet of the arsenic. That’ll help,” I smiled and took the report from his conversation with Leigh, reading it next.
“While speaking with Miss Leigh, she informed me that a cake was delivered to the house before she awoke for the day, that Major Krell received said cake from Breezes Babii and was told the cake was for him and not to allow Leigh to touch it. The Mayor then took the cake to the Sheriff’s office. This was told to her by the mayor. She has claimed that she never saw said cake. Although there have been rumors flying about, one that was mentioned deserves to be followed up on. She had heard that the Mayor and Breezes Babbi have conspired to eliminate Leigh Elton so they could be together.”
I blinked at the report from Leigh and looked at him. “Leigh heard Krell and Bree conspiring to get her out of the picture?!”
“It was a rumor she heard... As stated in the report.”
“An interesting hypothesis though. Solidifies motive for Bree like we’ve been looking for...” I nodded and read the arsenic report, smiling. “Glad to know about that match.” I started to get to work on the report from my conversation with Krell and Bree and told him, “Oh, this is actually about my conversation with Krell and Bree, since she walked over while we were talking.”
“Wait, you mean to say you talked to both at the same time???”
“Krell and Bree together. It started out with just Krell but Bree walked over.”
“I don’t think that was wise...”
“I stopped asking questions then.... They just kept talking.”
“But know you, you didn’t stop remember...” he chuckled.
“I think we need to investigate Bree’s kitchen. We have reason to believe she has motive and opportunity now. Since she was the one who baked the cake,” I said and handed him the copy of my report.
“If she used the chemical in powdered form, which is the best way, she would be the one...,” Ger said. “If it was used in liquid form...well...” He grew quiet as he read the report and then nodded. “Interesting. Well..Bree had access to the chemicals in the clinic.”
“Very interesting,” I nodded.
“We need to talk to Peta, see if she did suggest getting a cake for Tye,” he added.
“We sure do,” I nodded.
“How do you feel about some coffee and a danish Trin? I’m buying.”
“Sounds just about perfect. Haven’t been able to spend much time with you lately.”
We noticed a couple of natives by the gardens and grew curious about that but kept walking to the bakery.
“Hmm, seems like no one is here...serve yourself day,” Ger looked around the empty bakery.
“Mmhmm. Good time to look around, wouldn’t you say?”
We started to poke around the counter and he looked in the stove while I kept an eye on the door. Ger started to pull some papers out and showed them to me. He placed the papers in his pocket, grabbed a couple of danishes and coffees, and headed to the table.
“What do they say?” I looked at him anxiously.
“From what I can tell, they match the paper used to carry the chemical in... I’m not sure if there is any trace on them, they were in the fire and could have been destroyed, but it won’t hurt to check.”
“Definitely a good thing to check against the stuff you got from Myst’s,” I nodded.
“Yes...”
“I’ll let you take care of that when you get a chance. You’re better at that stuff than I am.”
“Since I found it in the fire, it would stand to reason she was trying to destroy them.”
“Mmhmm. But... We don’t know for sure Bree put them there. Could have been someone else trying to frame her.”
“True...and I am sure she cleaned up the workspace seeing how no other food is contaminated. You know, I don’t think we need to talk to Bree...I don’t think she will change her story...”
I shook my head and said, “We’ve heard her story enough times.”
“Which version?”
“Well you read the statement from this morning... She claimed she didn’t bake the cake then she accepted that she did.”
“AFTER Krell reminded her.”
“Right,” I said, finishing my danish and coffee. “I’m going to head back and rest... Done a lot today. We’ll put these reports together for Tye.”
“How’s the ribs?”
“They’re there... Was able to ride to Benson today, albeit slowly... But playing piano hurt a bit. Spreading the arms wide to play the high and low notes..”
“Well, you go rest some...I think we are done for the day anyways.”
“I think so too. Good work today,” I said and reached out to hug him gently.
“You take it easy...I’ll let you know if I find anything new.”
“I will. See you tomorrow, Ger?”
“No, I will be out of town.”
“Alright,” I nodded. “See you, Ger,” I said and headed home.
