Bisbee.
This morning I was sitting in front of the office when James walked over. “Hey there.”
“Well look at you all laid back,” he smiled.
“Workin’ hard, you know.”
“Anyway a few things you missed and may be interested in.”
“Oh yeah? I’m all ears,” I smiled. “Glad someone tells me something around here.”
“First, Black Diamond has a law office now. I opened one the other day with Cora, Loreh, and Bree. Loreh and I will be doing prosecution and Cora will be doing defense for now.”
“I’m happpy for you guys. I haven’t been doing much with prosecuting, though I am a lawyer as well,” I smiled.
“But this will interest you more.”
“I’m listening.”
“Seems like Carl, Sam and Bubba formed a team a vigilante.”
“I’ve been hearing rumors about that. The Regulators. They been around Diamond a lot?”
“Sam and Carl got summons last night for starting a shoot out in town. Well both are residents of Diamond.”
“Oh did they? Who’d they shoot? They weren’t... looking for anyone specific, were they?”
“Also someone named V is back. She set fire to the bank the other day.”
“Oh goodie,” I said sarcastically.
“I don’t remember who it was. I remember Suzy was there as well one of Bisbee deputies or sheriff. We had a lot going on last night with the dance and all. It happened right before the dance. Was about three or four shot.”
“Dang,” I shook my head.
“So figured that would be of interest to you. Them two are just plan gun happy.”
“Indeed, I appreciate that a lot. Who all was shot down?”
“Carl, Sam, D, and don’t remember the other.”
“So Bubba wasn’t shot down then...”
“He was not there this time.”
“Oh okay...”
“Bubba is more interested in justice then starting gun fights.”
“Right, well, so are the other two supposed to be.”
“These two clowns seem to shoot just cause you look at them wrong.”
“Or I’ve been told wrong. They were supposed to be in the same group with Bubba and he wouldn’t have stood for random violence.”
“And what worse they calling themselves the Regulators. No they are with Bubba that the problem. But will do this when he not around. Like last night.”
“I know they are... Just don’t get why they can just randomly go... oh, they do it against his wishes. That’s not good either then. Guess I’ll have to talk to Bubba.”
“Well that’s why I’m cluing you in on this.”
“Thank you James, definitely information I want to know.”
“Otherwise it life as usual. We kicking of helldorado week this Saturday.”
“Oh that’s right too. I’m doing somewhat of a fancy performance next week.”
“And a major trial this weekend from last months tea party incident.”
“Right... I don’t know much about that either. I really should hang around more than just staying in Bisbee on duty, huh? Though my jurisdiction does stretch out here.. Just not in Diamond. But I can help if they ask for it.
“Well if you can make it should be entertaining. Even Pet is on trial.”
“Wow...” I shook my head.
James said goodbye then and I relaxed in my office. An hour later, the door opened and I smiled when I saw Alex walk in. “Darling!” I jumped up and hugged him. “How are you, honey?”
“Tired. How are you?”
“Better now... It’s been a... hard weekend... I got some news from Ripley...”
“Oh yeah?”
“The name... I hesitated, looking at him with emotion. “He... It was.... Jakob Despres... And another guy named Johnny Ringo... Both of which have enormously dangerous potential.” He nodded so I continued. “Despres... I worked with him back in Colorado... He was a marshal then. And we suspected him of some stuff but it was never proven. Honey if they find out that we were friends.... And that I’m now living here... This could be about revenge for hanging their leader and they could suspect I had something to do with it. On the other hand...” I took a deep breath.
“That sounds like a very dangerous situation.”
“This Ringo guy... there’s a wanted poster for him in front of the saloon in Diamond... When you look closer, he has an awful lot of relevance to a certain mayor right here in Tombstone.” When Alex raised his eyebrows I said, “Honey if this is true... and if they’re one in the same... This is bigger than we could have ever imagined.”
“Can we verify that?”
“Not easily,” I sighed. “I’ve been warned against directly involving myself with this one. It’s going to get dangerous. Meanwhile... I was also informed that the Regulator members? They’re doing things behind their leader’s back... Starting fights that he wouldn’t approve of...”
“Not entirely surprised, I suppose. Guys who would be in that kind of gang don’t go for authority, even their own.”
“You’re right, that makes sense,” I nodded. “I hadn’t thought of it that way... Guess we could wander over to Diamond... See what’s going on.”
He nodded and we headed down the street.
Bisbee.
When we headed into Bisbee, I turned to him and said. “Oh... Guess what else.”
“What?”
“I had a productive conversation with the sheriff there...”
“Really?”
“You remember that whole thing with the bridges... that lady named Cym?”
“Yeah, creepy appearing dynamite”
“Uh huh... I met her daughter at the dance last week.”
“Interesting. Get any info from her?”
“Her name’s Jo. And the sheriff was the one who told me she was the daughter. But he warned me to not go directly to her either. So I wanna talk to Bill about it.”
“Good idea,” he nodded.
“Shall we?” I squeezed his hand.
He squeezed mine back and said, “Yep.”
Black Diamond.
We walked into Diamond and greeted James who was standing by the benches. I introduced Alex to him and James told him about the new law firm and how I would be helping them out a bit as an investigator. I chuckled, not having remembered to mention that part yet and we talked about the law firm.
“So what was the shooting about last night D, with Carl and Sam?” James asked him.
“Yea. Suzy was there.”
“See, told ya Trin,” James looked at me.
“I believe ya.”
“They started on us last night,” D said.
“Them boys think they can just take the law into there own hands.”
“And then Mr. Lot shot them.”
“Well more like they think they can go against their leader’s back instead of acting justly like...” I blinked and asked, “Lot was in town?”
“Well good for Lot,” James smiled.
“Late last night. I left town. He told me,” D said.
“Sounds like you got some work to do, Trin,” James said.
“No kidding,” I sighed.
“Did you get summoned D from last nights incident? I heard Carl and Sam did.”
“Nope, got nothing.”
“Suzy the only actual law that was about?” I asked.
“Not sure. It broke out,” D said.
“I thought one of the Bisbee law was there. Sheriff.”
“Ah, Sage? My boss who I never see...”
“Yes, think there was Sage I think. Yeah, I think so.”
“Throw them in jail,” D said.
“It should be so simple.”
“Too bad it not happen in Bisbee. Then you could just hang em.”
“Exactly, James,” I nodded. “We’re keeping our eyes open. If something happens in Diamond though.. the local law could request for help from other areas.”
“Well I’m sure if Matty needs any he will ask. This happened in Tombstone.”
“Well if Carl and Sam hired you... maybe you should tell them to lay low,” D suggested to James.
“Them two stay clear of me. I waiting for the chance to prosecute them and get them hung.”
“Wouldn’t that be lovely,” I winked at James and they laughed.
“We can chase them to your town Trin,” D suggested.
“There’s a thought,” I smirked.
“Let us walk and hang them. Hell, I pay for it,” D said and I chuckled at that.
“I’ll bet you would.”
“I will buy the new rope,” James chuckled.
“Ya’ll are relentless.”
“You know Trin, I respect most outlaws some tho you just get to the point you can’t stand,” James said.
“Mmhmm.”
“Hey, I’m a hot, good-looking outlaw,” he laughed.
“D, can I ask..... which gang are you with? You seem to be a more... respectable outlaw, “ I asked.
“Lot’s. Wild Bunch.”
“I see,” I smiled and looked to Alex. “Well shall we head to Bill and April’s, darling?”
“Sure,” he nodded and we headed to Bill and April’s.
Later that night, I went to the “meet and greet” where I played games with Bella and Bill and danced with the big crowd that had gathered. It was nice to just relax and have fun for a change and not worry too much about cases and other distractions. The music was great and the company was fun.
