Tombstone.
“Morning Serenity,” I greeted her as I walked over to Kate’s this morning.
“Mornin’, Pinky. Ain’t seen you in a bit.”
“Been busy actually... Workin’ a few cases right now.”
“None of my people in those, are there?” she lifted a brow.
“Hmm that depends.”
“Depends on...?”
“Well... There are four cases I’m running right now. Three of them I don’t know exactly all the participants.”
“Well if mine, Ace or Kacee’s name pop in there... let me know yeh?”
“Maybe you’ve heard about some of these incidents... Could shed some light... Not that you’d sell out any of your people obviously but if you know something... Might get people in other gangs arrested,” I winked.
“Take a seat, run ‘em by me? I’ll tell ya what I know,” Serenity motioned to the chairs on the porch in front of Kate’s.
“Lead the way,” I said and followed her to the chairs, sitting down. “Alright... First thing... this kissing bandit case. We keep hitting dead ends.”
“Kissing bandit? Yeh..I heard about that. When Dash came in head all bonked up one night.” She glanced up and down the road and leaned in to me, saying quietly, “Truth be told... I think it might even be him who is doin’ the Kissin’ with the way he’s been checkin’ out women lately.”
“It ain’t,” I shook my head. “He and Mysti were out for a walk and the kissing bandit came at them and went at Mysti but she kicked him where it hurt. Of course he could be spreading rumors about that too but...”
She looked at me surprised and then said, “But Mysti couldn’t recall what the man looked like. Sounds like she liked the kissin’ and don’t want folks to find out who is doin’ it.”
“I haven’t gotten a chance to talk to her yet but yeah... most ladies want to meet the man again so they can kiss him again. My money’s still on Dash too but I need to prove it somehow.”
“There’s a new gal in town... friends with Sniper, don’t doubt she’s a part of the Wild Bunch perhaps, names Bailey I believe. She had a little run in with Dash yesterday... as he apologized to her in front of Sniper, I saw him checkin’ out her left hand.” She pointed to her ring finger, “Then he leaned down and kissed her hand. I don’t know of many married men who do that..”
“I know who you’re talking about. She came to my set in Bisbee last week and I remembered her from way back in May. Don’t know much about her yet. I should talk to Sniper about this whole thing though.”
She laughed and said, “Sniper drunk half the time to remember what happens, but you can try.”
I chuckled and said, “The other thing... There was a robbery in Tombstone on the day of New Years Eve... or at least that’s when I found out about it. The suspect went in and out through the roof but we ain’t sure who it was. Sommer was watching by but I’m guessing Jack was involved somehow. Haven’t been able to substantiate that one.”
“Yeh, Jack and Sommer are an interesting pair. Anything that involves her usually involves him too.”
“Yep that was my guess too. They don’t really work with anyone else, do they?”
“Not at all,” she shook her head.
“Didn’t think so. So that pretty much solves that... I just gotta talk to Jack.”
“You said you had one more case?” Serenity nodded.
“Okay the other thing... and this one’s interesting... Dash believes that someone set Redd out to kill him. I managed to find out Redd’s name now we’re just trying to find out who set him up to it. Problem is that he’s threatening to take down anyone until he finds out who did it.”
“Wait, Redd...” she lifted a brow. “That’s the fella who is with Jewel?”
“Mr. Redd is all I know about him,” I shrugged and looked at her. “You think Jewel has something to do with it?”
She shrugged lightly, “Depends on which Redd it is. I know of two fellas in town who go by the name of Redd. One of ‘em I seen in Diamond, the other is Jewel’s man I guess.”
“The one in Diamond... So probably not the same one,” I nodded.
“Then I’d be likely to believe that it’s someone down there. You know they ain’t fond of Dash or the folks he runs with.”
“Yeah and that’s the thing only Bill don’t wanna talk about it and I’m guessing I ain’t gonna get too far with that crowd. So it could be anyone then.”
“It very well could be just about anyone in that town.”
“Great,” I muttered.
“Any other cases or those the main ones you dealin’ with?”
“Think that sums it up... David wants me to get a clearer picture for him of the scene the other day when he shot Jewel cause she stole his whiskey... But I ain’t sure what’s gonna go down with that. He was under the influence of alcohol so I’m guessing that’s what happened and I ain’t gonna get much more. Actually I don’t think he shot her just drew his gun at her.”
“That situation has gone out of yer hands. Jewel made sure to shoot him last night for that.”
Serenity nodded, “Then Ace shot her for bein a coward.”
“Figured that would be a quick case. Guess he doesn’t much need me anymore then.”
“He’ll get it figured out on his own eventually,” she nodded again.
“Yeah. Considering that one closed. Now I only have three open. Though I’m sure that bank robbery one is dealt with too.” I stood then and said, “I should get back to the office. Thanks for this, Serenity. It’s helpful.”
“You take care,” she nodded and I went back to my office.
