December 31, 1899

Tombstone.

I walked into the street and saw Devin walking over. “Hey there, Devin! How are you doing?”

“Howdy there, Trin,” he smiled. “Just fine.”

“I saw a telegram from the sheriff’s office that you’re a deputy here in Tombstone now?”

“Yes Ma’am see if I work out.”

“I’m glad for that. I enjoy working with you,” I smiled.

“We have a case I was hoping you might be able to help us with.”

“Is it the kissing bandit case that I’m working with Dave? Or something new?”

“Yep. That the one. Only now he is more violent.”

“Maybe we should chat in my office upstairs?”

He nodded and I led the way upstairs to my office. When we were seated at my desk I asked, “So talk to me... what’s he done now?”

“Well... Last night Dash and Mystical were taking a walk. Dash was drunk. The kissing bandit hit up Mystical but first... he knocked over Dash and took his gold about one hundred worth.”

I blinked, stopping him. “The kissing bandit isn’t Dash? And is now going after people that aren’t new to the town?”

“Yep. Mystical thought he would try to rape her so she kicked him in his stones. Mystical doctored Dash. Took eleven stitches in his head.”

“Geez...”

“Yes Ma’am. They came staggering into Tombstone last night.”

“We need to figure out who this guy is, Devin.”

“Also,” he nodded, “Another topic.”

“I’m listening.”

“Dash thinks someone has hired a bounty hunter to take him down in Black Diamond.”

“Oh really? A separate case...”

“And Dash plans to cause trouble in Black Diamond until the person steps forward and shows themselves to him. He said so himself... but then... Dash do say things often when drunk.”

“Right... So who knows if what he’s saying is reliable.”

“Someone DID try to shoot him at the Black Diamond saloon

“So would Dash like me to find out who’s been told to kill him?”

“Well he didn’t ask directly but it sure would help if we could find out before he starts burning the town down as he is saying he will do.”

“I understand... I’ll add it to my pile of cases. Feels good to be able to say that finally..”

“Anything else going on?”

“Mhmm.... That Bearfoot guy what’s his name shot me down last night.”

“Bearfoot?” I looked at him, confused.

“That Boss of the gang.”

“Blackfoot?”

“Yeh. Plus...”

“What do you need me for with that one?” I winked.

“I need you to kiss my ouchie smiles. Every outlaw was in town last night: Sniper, Lot, Sommer, Jewels, you name it.”

“Sounds like a party.”

“Yeh party to welcome the green horn,” Devin laughed.

“You’re cute,” I chuckled.

“Abby had a sharp tongue on her relentless.”

“Don’t I know it,” I nodded.

“She’s adopting again I hear.”

“Anything else going on?” I asked, really not wanting to talk about them.

“Mmhmm. Last night my first night...”

“Never a dull moment ‘round here.”

“Not much else I can think of.”

“Nothing happened at the bank or the hotel or Annie’s?” I winked at him.

“Well...” he laughed.

“Ha, I knew it!”

“The bank was robbed last night.”

“Was it...”

“Sommer was near by.”

“You know who did it?”

“Couldn’t see who done it. Escaped from the roof.”

“How’d you know that? Roof latch was open?”

“We heard them or him or her.”

“Heard them but didn’t see them? Who’s ‘we’?”

“Seemed to me that Sommer was keeping watch though.”

“Well Sommer and Jack are usually joined at the hip. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s involved.”

“That’s what I’m thinking as well,” he nodded.

“I’ll find out for you,” I winked. “With every outlaw and their brother or sister in town it’s gonna be hard to nail down. Was a banker working?”

“Miss Trin? You wink at me a lot. You got some grapefruit stuck in that cute eye of yours? Should I have a look at it fer ya?” he asked and I laughed at him. “Nope, bank was closed.”

“Hmm. So they got away with the money?”

“Yes Ma’am, and the front door wasn’t broken into neither.”

“What about the back door?”

“Didn’t appear to be either. It’s a mystery.”

“So in and out through the roof...”

“Would seem so.”

“This is a curious case indeed.”

“On another matter...” he nodded.

“There’s more?”

“Yes, very serious. Are you planning to go to any of the dances later today?”

“Oh, probably...”

“Well seeing as we both law in one way or ‘nother, perhaps we dance a little bit and discuss in more close detail if you like.”

“I’m listening... Something going to happen?”

“One never knows, Miss Trin,” he winked.

“I saw Natives ride through town the other day... Dave suggested they were preparing for the dance. That just your way of asking me to the dance with you, Devin?”

“A dance never hurt two people as far as I know,” he blushed.

We walked outside together and saw that the street was empty so we went to Kate’s and danced there for a while. Eventually we went to the town dance where a big crowd was gathering. Each group went up on stage to play a few songs that had to do with their field. Doctors, Doves, Law, Children, Lady’s Society and Greeters were all represented.
