June 27, 1899

Tombstone.

This morning I made coffee in the kitchen, trying not to make too much noise to wake Joshua up, then rode into town. I received the telegram for the court docket for this weekend and looked it over as I sat down in front of the Epitath.

Sirus came out of the hotel and I greeted him. I told him that my brother was in town and that he was going to stay a bit to protect me. We talked with other people who came over and chatted about Annie’s and how things used to be with the doves getting attacked but how now it was too boring.

I walked over to the office but before leaving Sirus said, “Look after Sky for me, please?”

“Look after Sky... I can’t do much, Si. I ain’t armed. I can barely keep myself safe.”

“Well... I mean...” he hesitated. “Iff’in she needs maybe a shoulder.”

“You’re going?” I looked at him, curious.

“Somethin’ like that,” he nodded. “For a spell.”

“How come?” I folded my arms across my chest.

“I need to..umm..go deal with something from my past. It might take a while.”

“Sirus... Let it be. You’ve got a good life here, and a good woman... You go back to your past it may make things worse again.”

He looked at Jamie and said, “Maybe you can look after Lacey for me too.”

I walked over to Siurs and said, “Let’s go somewhere’s and talk. Please?”

“Alright,” he nodded.

We walked upstairs and sat in the lounge. I leaned forward and said, “Talk to me.”

“Okay, well, here it is. There’s a warrant out on me, for crimes I did some time ago before I went straight...”

“A warrant where?” I raised an eyebrow.

“I tried to keep it on the down low but... Sky found it.” He took the warrant out of his back pocket and showed it to me.

Looking the warrant over I read:

Looking up at him I said, “I’ll bet she was furious.” When he simply nodded and looked down I said, “Guess we should get back out there. You just stay safe, alright? You were one of the first people I met in this town.”

“Okay Trin, thanks.”

We stood and I looked at him, wondering when I’d see him again. “Si... Is there anything I can do?”

“Well, maybe... Once I do what I gotta do... you can talk to someone... get my sentence cut down... ya know put in a good word here or there.”

“Talk to who?”

“Maybe um... grease a few palms.”

“I’ll see what I can do, Si,” I chuckled.

“You know how these crooked politicians can be.”

“Hey man, I’m a politician now that I’m a lawyer,” I winked at him.

“Money talks, outlaws walk,” he said before leading the way back down to the street.

“I’m gonna head to my office. See ya’ll soon I hope,” I said and headed to my office. I sat down on the chair on my balcony and pulled out my notebook.
