Bisbee.
I spent most of today sitting in front of the office with my notebook. This afternoon Cole walked over and I waved to him.
“Hey there, stranger. Been a while.”
“Well now, howdy there Trin. How you be?” he smiled at me.
“Oh you know... working hard...”
“Yep, I guess you must... although it don’t look too hard at the moment.”
“Nah, it’s nice and peaceful here. I’m getting a lot of writing done. Social time is good too though... What you out and about doin’?”
“Oh not too much... I’m heading off for some food in a while, but I thought I’d look around the towns and see if there some easy pickings,” he coughed and corrected himself, “If anything need picking up to keep the towns clean.”
“Uh huh,” I chuckled. “Feel like joining me for a coffee? I need to wake up.”
“Did you hear about the run in I had with Kris and Nim a few nights ago?”
“Tell me over coffee,” I smiled and led the way to Chezz.
We sat down at a table where I could still watch the town and I asked, “So what happened with Nim and Kris?”
“Well...” Cole started, reaching for his coffee that I had brought him. “You know me. I was just messin’ with Kris. He was down the road way far away... and I shout his name a number of times to warn him that I be shooting in his direction... then I shot. Seem a few bullets did hit him,” he laughed.
“Uh huh...”
“Well... Nim was in town and Kris quickly deputized her for Tombstone. And she started to shoot at me... she almost got me completely.”
“Almost?”
“But then I got her two-fold and she got stuck up against a building and I done her in too! Then some citizen just shot me out of the blue without a word! Dang him!”
“Who was the citizen?”
“I took down his name and reported, but I guess it seem it okay, I don’t know... I was almost gone. Stupid of me not to hide behind doc’s office.”
“Yeah that ain’t like you... You usually think faster than that.”
“I usually don’t think at all,” he laughed, “but I proud. That the first time I take down two at one time. And Nim ain’t no soft touch neither!”
“That’s for sure,” I nodded.
“But Nim a real good sport about it... really good.”
“She usually is.”
“I ask Kris if he file it so it go to Court hearing... it make for good court I figure. But he ain’t yet filed,” he sighed. “That boy is lately.”
“Actually I saw your name on the docket I just received today...”
“Yeh that jest for shooting Cletis. Who care about him?” he smiled and winked at me.
“I’m trying to figure out what to do about the court stuff...” I admitted.
“Well ya know I like ya Trin... but most of the law dawgs I don’t like much. Did you hear about Skyla?”
“What about her?”
“She’s coming back! She’s going to settle... Maybe in Bisbee. I ai’t sure but she is coming back to be law again!”
“Oh really?!” I asked, excited.
Angeles walked over and I told Cole how hard it was being a lawyer when there wasn’t much time to prepare for court. Angeles came over and they talked about his trial coming up. I let them talk and squeezed Cole’s shoulder as I headed to my office.
