Tombstone.
This morning I went into town and got talking with Abby and Stareyes about fashion and shopping in Winslow. Waterfall came over with her new baby and we chatted for a bit, and then I headed home.
I spent the day arranging a new Pinkerton office in Bisbee, so that I would have a new location for more confidential meetings. I was finding that the one in Tombstone was a bit too central and anyone could see me walking there with someone. For private meetings it would be better to arrange a meeting in Bisbee.
In the evening I went back into town and talked with Ali and Gabe about the new office. Some others were there too and I talked with TJ about him applying for a law position and how it reminded me of the good ol’ days.
“Don’t think we’ve officially met, have we sir?” I looked over to the man sitting on the stack of barrels. I had seen him around but hadn’t actually introduced myself before.
“We haven’t miss. The name is Alex Cross.”
“Detective Trin Paige. Nice to meet you. Heard lots about you.”
“Ah really? Good things, or bad?”
“More in the business of askin’ than answerin’ questions, but a mixture of both I reckon.”
“Who says I’d shoot because I can?” TJ asked as Gabe and Ali continued to jibe him about trying out for law.
“Well ya did shoot Ansar,” Alex said.
“He deserved it,” TJ shrugged.
“Why?” Ali asked.
“He ran from law for a warrant.”
“And you won’t be until you learn to control your temper,” Alex told him and then looked at me.
“But it was a pleasure to meet you miss Trin. Hopefully we get to work together sometime.
“Ya, the king of the land,” TJ laughed.
“Ya shot Ansar? How come?” I asked.
“Not at all sir. I’m just a bystander,” Alex shook his head.
“He had a warrant and ran from Nim,” TJ answered me.
“Pleasure to meet you as well, Alex. What kind of work do you do?” I asked Alex.
“She had no jurisdiction to make the arrest,” Ali said.
“I’m a ranger miss Trin,” Alex answered.
“Oh are ya? Well good to have more official law around then,” I smiled at him.
“She had to let him if he didn’t go with her willingly,” Ali said.
“He was arrested. I went to jail. End of story,” TJ said with bitterness.
“The story should of never been written, TJ,” Alex protested.
“Well it was. I’ll plead guilty and move on.”
“You and Cole got similar minds. Except Cole knows when to walk away. You love the action a little too much,” Alex pointed out and I chuckled at the comparison.
“Only place Cole walks away to is the docs office,” Gabe commented.
I waved to Karl as he walked over and Alex said, “I apologize if I offended you TJ. It wasn’t my intention.”
“Oh I am not offended at all. I stand by what I do.”
“I was just saying that you should control your temper. Maybe walk around without your guns for awhile.”
“Helping law without being deputized only gets folks into trouble most times,” Ali pointed out.”
“Just creates confusion too,” I agreed, thinking of the other night in Kate’s.
TJ headed off to go find Nim and I said, “That’s more talking out of him than I’ve heard in a while.”
“So Ranger Alex, what is it that the crazy lady be saying about me?” Ali asked him.
“Crazy lady?” I raised an eyebrow.
“She didn’t state which mayor. She just said one kicked down the door and was pointing guns,” Alex said.
“Who are we talking about?” I looked over at Alex.
“Her name was Jesse or something,” Alex told me.
“I suppose the Miss can see through walls to speak such nonsense?” Ali asked.
“Jessica James?” I asked and Ali nodded.
“She just became a ranger,” Alex shrugged.
“Oh is that who we’re talking about?” Gabe shook his head. “The woman is going to cry wolf one too many times, and then when she really needs help, no one is going to help her.”
“Oh did she?” I raised an eyebrow.
“She threw dirt at me earlier,” Ali mumbled.
“Sounds like quite the nice woman.”
“Oh goodness... And she just became a ranger,” Alex sighed.
“Ranger eh?” Gabe chuckled.
After a while I met a man named Mr. Johnson and then headed off to Black Diamond.
Black Diamond.
I greeted Nim standing in front of the sheriff’s office. “Evening, Sheriff!” I greeted her.
“Hello Trin.”
“How are things?”
“Good, thanks, nice and quiet.”
“Great. Came over to see if ya need my help with anything but I guess not.”
“Nah, have a deputy and another coming, so I am set.”
“Glad to hear it. They can get busy too though so ya know if ya need an extra set of eyes...”
“Yep, will give you a shout.”
“I’ve got an office in Bisbee now.”
“Yea, I heard its nice, well done.”
“It’s better for those more confidential meetings... and I love the setting of Bisbee to work in.”
“Nice quiet town, very scenic as well.”
“Indeed. Perfect for writing. Well I guess I should head back there. Have a safe evening.”
“You as well Trin.”
I waved and headed back towards Bisbee for the evening.
