May 7, 1900

Black Diamond.

I walked outside and saw Alex walking over. “Hey Alex!” I waved towards him.

“Hey Trin!”

“Just about to do the rounds and see if anything’s going on.”

“Oh, very good. How is it going?”

“Pretty boring, to be honest. Not much work to do right now. Just riding around meeting people.”

“Need some company? Aly’s looking for something to wear.”

“Sure hop on Leo and join me,” I smiled and we hopped on our horses and rode towards Allen Street.

Tombstone.

“Jess, wait up! You gonna be alright getting home?” we heard a man shout towards her as we rode into town.

“Will you take me home?” Jess asked him.

“Mac’s house? he grinned and I grew more curious as to what was going on.

“No, I don’t think I can make it alone,” Jess said as the man looked at Mac. “No, not Mac’s house. My house.”

“Looks like Kate’s is busy tonight,” I looked over towards Kate’s while we were still within earshot of the other conversation.

“Yeah there’s a big crowd in there,” Alex nodded.

“Feel like venturing in?”

“Alright, we gotta be quick, I have a few things riding on time right,” the man told Jess.

“Yeah sure,” Alex smiled and we dismounted our horses, tying them out front and heading inside.
Skye was inside talking with Matthew Acres, who I’d met at a dance, and I could see that she was getting frustrated with him. Alex went behind the bar to pour us some drinks as we talked with Demarco and Paisley. Matthew asked Skye to dance but she grumbled off and I looked between them.

“She’s grumpier than normal,” I observed, looking at Matthew.

“She’ll come around eventually,” he rolled his eyes. “If I just bug her enough.”

“Is that a badge I see??” Matthew glanced over at the woman named Angel who I’d also met at the dance the other night. She had been deputy in Black Diamond and I remembered her from a year ago.

“Yup. Got deputized today,” she grinned. “Don’t ‘ave my keys yet so I’m not on duty.”

“Eh Trin! You around?! Where ya go off to!” Aly called out then.

“We’re at Kate’s!” I shouted back to Aly.

“Everything okay, Trin?” Matt asked me.

“Just bored, Matt.”

“Ah, I understand.”

“All these deputies gettin’ hired... ain’t nothin’ to do.”

“You’re a detective?” Matt looked down at my badge and asked.

“Yes sir. Pinkerton. Only one in these parts.”

“I ain’t seen Pinkerton’s in ages.”

“Well now ya seen one,” I smiled.

“I see that. I thought they just died out,” he laughed.

“Been here a year now. Nah we’re still kickin’.”

“That’s good. Though I hope you don’t find any reason to dig into my past,” he laughed.

“Well then don’t give me a reason to,” I chuckled. “You know about the Pinkertons, Matt?”

“There we a few around here and there,” he said as I greeted Aly and the others started to talk around us. “Seemed to not mind their own business when it needed to be minded.”

“We get information for the law when they need it, Sir. It’s our job to be nosey.”

“Yeah but when you’re running with the Rejects nosey is bad,” he grinned.

“The Rejects huh?” I looked at him.

“See now you told me not to look into your past and you’re offerin’ it,” I smiled.

“Oh yeah. Those were the days,” he smiled. “That was many years ago.”

“Hope so. Don’t need another gang ‘round here.”

“I don’t plan on leading any escapades anytime soon. I’m getting to old for that crap.”

“Glad to hear that, Matt.”

“And by too old I mean I can’t run and shoot like I used too. That train has left.”

“I’m juzt happy to see I’m still a good shot,” Angel put in then.

“Yes you are,” Matt laughed. “I used to be... Was quite the hell raiser.”

“Glad you’re talking in past tense, Matt.”

“Trin. Remind me again why we couldn’t have them drinks back home in Black Diamond?” Aly asked then. “Not like we ain’t got the Tennessee whiskey there.”

“Because I neeed to do the rounds and see what was going on, and Alex decided to join me,” I chuckled and Aly grunted grouchily in response.

“Well ladies and gents if you would excuse me I have some business to attend to,” Matt said then.

“Business huh,” I looked at him.

“Yes serious stuff,” he laughed and tipped his hat.

“As log as it’s legal,” I chuckled and he winked as he walked out of the saloon.

“Who was that guy?” Aly asked. “I don’t like bragging.”

“Friend of Skye’s.”

“Who is Skye?”

“Who’s a friend of mine. She was the sheriff around here long time ago.”

“Oh. That doesn’t help me neither.”

“That’s my daughter,” Angel chuckled.

“Skye is your daughter?” I looked over at her and she nodded. “Well you learn something new every day. I’ve known Skye for a year or so now... since I came to Tombstone. She was one of the ones that helped me learn how to shoot and learn the ropes of the law ‘round here.”

“So a good person to have on your side,” Aly pointed out.

“Ya’ll being law runz in the fimaly thankfully she took after me on zat aspect of career over her fatherz side,” Angel told us.

“So I see,” I nodded.

“But she still haz her fathers orneriness.”

“Don’t I know it,” I chuckled.

“Well all, despite the medical emergency, a fine evening,” Demarco said after he was finished dancing with Paisley.

“Medical emergency?” I looked over at him.

“There was a medical emergency?” Aly raised a brow.

“Miz jessica tore open some sticvhez on her leg,” Angel explained.

“Ouch,” Aly winced.

“Oh that ain’t good... she got shot before?” I asked.

“Miss Jess dropped a scalpel and cut her thigh,” Demarco explained. “So she stitched it up right on the spot.”

“Oh, okay,” I nodded.

Demarco headed out then and Trent walked into the saloon. Aly headed back to town and Alex walked her back. She said that she had some reports to finish before the dance. I stayed behind and talked with Sniper who had walked into the saloon. Trent sat down at the piano and played and then I decided to head home.
