May 15, 1900

Tombstone.

This afternoon I walked down Allen Street and found a crowd in front of the clinic. I smiled when I saw Matt and went to him. “Deputy, glad you’re here. Have a gift for you. Remember those reports I promised I’d give you about that robbery in Bisbee?”

“I do,” he nodded.

“It’s all explained there,” I handed him my report. “Witness statements attached.”

“Thank you,” he nodded. “Thank goodness for reports or I’d forget everything.”

“I’m here to help. Hope we can get that case the justice it deserves. But it’s in your hands now.”

“Thank you Trin. Garth is definitely got a record stacking. Damn paperwork..”

“Indeed,” I nodded.

“Must have never been loved by momma or something.”

“Well, that won’t be happening with Leo here...” Paisley said.

“I swear I’m goin to get that man into one of those elecrodeal machines,” Jess mumbled.

“Leo?” I raised an eyebrow.

“Zannza’s baby.. lots of love..” Paisley told me. “Will be a fine young man.”

“Ohhh I see.”

“No I met Garth about a year a go, Something has happened to him since then...” Jess said. “He was a nice guy then.”

“Quite possible,” Paisley nodded. “No idea what happens to some people.”

“Well I can’t throw too many stones,” Matt said. “I was like Garth in some aspects before.”

“Something horrible has happened to him,” Jess said confidently.

“Well at least we’ve got Deputy Acres here to take care of things,” I smiled.

“Some of his aspects are crazy though,” Matt said.

I turned and saw Suzy walk towards us. “Suzy! Just the woman I need to talk to.”

“Hi Matthew, hi Trin,” she greeted us.

“You wrote a statement about Dougie robbing the cavalry last weekend...” I looked at Suzy.

“Yup. Right after I shot him.”

“Did he successfully rob the cavalry or was it just an attempt? You shot him before he tried to rob the cavalry?”

“He got shot too quick.”

“So then why isn’t it an attempted robbery charge?”

“He asked for money, I said no, he drew his guns, then he hit the ground.”

“I’m just curious the charge... Sounds more like an attempt than an actual robbery.”

“Too many people are trying to make a reputation around here now adays,” Matt shook his head.

“Well not the smartest attempt,” Suzy said.

“The ones who don’t always try are the ones who make a name for themselves,” Matt said.

“He got a reputation as a ground hugger,” Suzy said.

“I’m just... never mind,” I shook my head and looked back at Matt.

“Plus pride blinds people,” he added.

“He probably still picking bird shot from his butt,” Suzy said. “That will teach him.”

“I’m going to head home,” I sighed, obviously not being understood. “Have a good night folks,” I said and walked back towards Diamond as they said goodnight.
