Tombstone.
This afternoon I walked down Allen Street and noticed the group dancing on the hoedown stage. I changed into a dress and then went to dance with Marc while we talked with the group there. We celebrated Mikk’s birthday and reflected on how I’d met him in Colorado. We talked about how Tombstone drew you in and it was hard to leave once you settled there and made it home.
At one point, I noticed Skyla standing in the back of the crowd and waved to her, happy to see that she was still around. A song started on the record player about fishing and I chuckled, “Here we go about fishing again... Still think Marc’s crazy for wanting to teach me how to fish. Just saying... need a lot of patience to do that with me. I’m going to drive him mad the second we get out on the lake.”
“The best part, Trin, is putting the worm on the hook,” Aly said. “After that....you get to ...uhm....wait. And hopefully put a new worm on soon.”
“Are we still talking about fish and a lake or are we talking metaphorically?” I asked.
“I’m talking about fishing! God!” Aly laughed.
“Yes Aly,” Marc laughed in agreement.
“Are you talking about actual fishing?” I looked at him suspiciously.
“I think ya got ya hands full there Trin,” Skyla laughed at me.
“Don’t I know it,” I chuckled at her. “Skye knows me well enough. You can’t picture me waiting for a fish can ya?”
“Put a little whiskey in your water and you will be,” Marc suggested.
“Whiskey huh? Now you’re talking my language. When the bottle is empty we can shoot at it.”
“And get arrested for weapons unholstered?” I couldn’t help but wink at Aly.
“If I didn’t see it happen....” Aly chuckled, “I can’t arrest you for it.”
“Oh now who is gonna do the arresting?” Marc asked.
“And I’m not going fishing with you two,” Aly laughed.
“Trin will want to arrest me for that,” Marc said.
“You’re lucky Trin can’t arrest,” I chuckled.
“Is that a one-sided fishing pole?” Jess put in then and we laughed.
“Okay seriously we’re not talking about a lake and fish anymore are we?” I looked around.
“That’s more than I care to think about,” Aly said.
“Oh shoot I was hoping that you could,” Marc said.
“You want me to arrest you dear?” I smirked.
“Oh yes sweetie, I do... and I guess I will be on house arrest.”
“If you want to stay in the house with the door locked with me inside, you don’t need to be arrested for that dear. Just have to ask,” I laughed.
“It will take you a very long time to turn in the paper work to get a court date.”
“Oh don’t even think about it Trin, I’m NOT doing your extra stuff,” Aly laughed.
“Oh come on Aly... we help each other out, don’t we?” I asked and she grumbled.
“Aly she will be tied up,” Marc announced.
“Tied up?” I blinked.
“Be careful...someone threatened to uhm...tie her up..recently and uhm...didn’t go so well.... Did it, Jack?” Aly asked, looking over at Jack who was playing the fiddle near us.
I laughed hearing that and Marc said, “Maybe he just did not know how to do it.”
“Like Jack suffered much... He was the one that shot me,” I rolled my eyes.
“Hey, you leave my employee out of it,” Rikki grinned.
“I didn’t press charges on him for that, now did I, Rikki?” I looked at her.
“You were smart not to,” Rikki smiled.
“I guess that I will need to give you an exam to make sure that you’re okay,” Marc went on.
“Oh,” Aly laughed. “Now we go from arresting to uhm...medical.”
“I know right? He wants to tie me up then he wants to be arrested now he wants to doctor me up.”
“Hate to have to come and blow up your jail,” Rikki giggled.
“Oh please don’t do that, I just repaired the windows and doors from the last time,” Aly said.
As we continued to dance and joke around with each other, I looked over to see that some Natives had joined. One of them was Doe, a Native girl that I recognized from back in Colorado Springs. She had seen me in the courthouse with Adder the day that their chief had been on trial and I remembered she’d been confused at my involvement with the whole incident. I made a mental note to myself that I needed to talk to her about how I had been true to my Native roots that day and hadn’t taken on the case, and how much it had cost me.
We continued to dance and have a good time on Allen Street and then Marc and I decided to go do some shopping in Winslow.
