Black Diamond.
I walked into the cafe this morning and smiled when I saw Alex and Paisley sitting with a young girl that I hadn’t met yet.
“Morning, detective!” Alex smiled at me.
“Trin! Wonderful of you to drop in!” Paisley greeted me.
“Nat, this is my friend Trin I was telling you about yesterday,” Alex looked at the child.
“Hi Miss Trin!” Nat looked at me.
“Trin, this is Nat. She likes Sherlock Holmes like you do,” Alex told her.
“Well hey there everyone!” I smiled and took a seat.
“And see? Another woman in pants,” Alex chuckled.
“Alex, I heard about Aly’s promotion! Such good news!” I smiled at him.
“Isn’t it!? We were just talking about that. I’m so proud of her.” Alex smiled.
“Oh and about those prints on my window...” I looked between them with a chuckle and Nat looked down nervously. I had found two nose prints on my window that morning as well as two that had looked like a horse’s nose. Since there wasn’t really that many people in town, I had a guess as to whom they belonged.
“Can you tell whose prints those are?” Alex asked.
“I think the two big prints belong to those two horses out there am I right?”
“I am not sure you will get a confession from them Trin,” Paisley giggled .
“And let’s seee based on Miss Paisley’s giggle that would mean..... The woman like one must be Miss Paisley’s... and the little small one must be..... Nat’s?”
Alex looked at Nat and pointed his thumb at me. “See? Real Sherlock Holmes there.”
Nat blinked and asked, “How’d she do that???”
“Did they have any other good books at the orphanage Nat?” Alex asked.
“I dunno, I just read Sherlock all night. But all the shooting in town kinda got me distracted.”
“That can be distracting,” Alex nodded.
“Shooting in town?” I looked at them.
“Aly got shot again last night,” Alex told me.
I sighed at that and asked, “Is she okay?”
“Yeah, got hit in the leg. I checked it this morning. She’s at home resting,” he nodded.
“Good thing she’s married to a doctor... Probably their way of hazing her into the new job,” I said.
“Hazing?” Nat looked between us.
“That’s probably just what it is,” Alex nodded and looked at Nat. “That kind of when someone is new and other people test them to see how they react.”
“Happened to me when I was deputy in Bisbee,” I remembered. “Who shot her?”
“Like when boys tease me cause they wanna see if I’ll act to it?” Nat asked.
“Um... boys tease you when they like you,” Alex told her.
“Oh.”
“I don’t know who shot her. She said it was some woman,” Alex said.
Nat looked at Paisley and asked, “Have you been shot?”
“I have been twice,” Paisley nodded.
“Maybe now that she’s in Tombstone I can close all those cases,” I nodded to Alex.
“Yeah, maybe.”
“Do you have a lot of cases Miss Trin? Like Sherlock and finding prints and stuff?” Nat asked me.
“Mmhmm... You could help me... If you hear anything you write it down on one of these cards. Do you know how to write?” I asked her.
Nat nodded excitedly and looked from Alex to Paisley. “I read AND write!”
“She plays piano too. You two have a lot in common,” Alex looked at me.
I handed her a blank witness statement and said, “Here you go... You know where my office is,” I smiled.
“If you all will excuse me... I do have to tend to some errands. Thank you for breakfast Alex,” Paisley said then.
“You’re welcome Paisley! I’m glad you could join us!” Alex smiled.
“Aww you have to go Paisley?” Nat asked.
“Nat, I will show you Widow lake later...” Paisley promised. “Yes, I have an appointment.”
“Thank you for letting me meet Chester,” Nat said.
“Nice to see you, Paisley!” I smiled.
“Have a good day, Paisley!” Alex said.
“Good to see you too Trin! I will see you all later on,” Paisley said and headed out of the cafe.
Nat took the paper from me and looked at it. “Do you really think I could help?”
“Mmhmm. People tell kids a lot more than they tell me,” I winked at Alex.
“That’s true!” Alex agreed.
“I found this place with a bunch of chairs... By the church I think. There was a hat on this rack thing and a sign on the door that said Ladies society,” Nat told us.
“That’s where the ladies in town go. I don’t know what they do there,” Alex said.
“That’s where that building is? Wow, no one ever showed it to me. Guess they didn’t think I was much of a lady,” I commented.
“That’s what they always say about me!! I’m not a good girl!” Nat exclaimed.
“I can’t picture you sitting around quilting or whatever they do,” Alex laughed and looked at Nat, “Just because you don’t do the same things as other girls doesn’t make you a bad girl.”
“Good gosh, quilting? Me? That’s a funny one,” I laughed. “About as funny as me wearing a dress when I’m working.”
“I hate dresses!” Nat exclaimed.
“You two are so much alike!” Alex chuckled.
“Mr. Alex, does Aly wear dresses?” Nat asked.
“Aly wears dresses sometimes but she also wears pants sometimes. She says it’s easier to chase bad guys in pants.”
“Uh huh! Easier to fish and ride and play in pants,” Nat said.
“Sad part is I wear them more... When I perform or go to church or to a dance,” I reflected.
“There’s dances?” Nat asked.
“There are! Dances are fun.”
“I don’t go to dances enough,” I said.
“I don’t either,” Alex said, “But I’d like to go to more.”
“Would be a good way to get drinks from your wife,” I winked at him.
“They’re too late at night. I always fall asleep while reading medical journals,” Alex said.
“You read a lot too? You’re like Watson!” Nat exclaimed, referring to the character in Sherlock.
“That’s just what Trin says,” Alex laughed. “I do read a lot.”
“How many times have I called you that Alex?” I chuckled.
“Um... once? But you’ve said it before.”
“See you and me have a lot in common too,” Nat observed.
“Only once?” I looked at him.
“I have no idea,” Alex laughed. “My memory isn’t that good.”
“Miss Trin did you know Miss Angi might get hanged?” Nat looked at me.
“Say what?!” I blinked at Alex. “There was nothing about that on the docket!”
“Aly said that this morning too. I don’t know why she’s on trial, but she is,” Alex nodded.
“Uh huh. Mill said cause some guy wanted to shoot her and she shot him back a few days later, Paisley said.”
“Told you something was going on with Angi,” I shook my head.
“I don’t want to stay in the orphanage. Can’t I just stay with Miss Trin?” Nat asked. “What if he comes back before the trial? What if she gets hanged?”
“Why don’t you wait and see what happens at the trial before you get all these bad ideas about her not coming back?”
“Guess I’d have to be married for her to stay with me...” I sighed.
“If you always think about the ‘what ifs’ in life, you’ll be scared all the time. Just think about what’s right now in front of you,” Alex said.
“Gotta live in the moment or you’ll go crazy,” I nodded.
“Exactly,” Alex agreed.
“Like Miss Angi?” Nat asked.
“Nat, when you finish your breakfast, would you like me to show you the library?” Alex looked at her.
“I found it yesterday! That’s where I met Aly! She was right outside.”
“Oh good!”
“I met Mr. Wise too!”
“Oh you met the mayor, did you? He’s nice.”
“Adrian was in town? That’s rare... What was he goin’ on about? Usually he comes into town to give me more work,” I reflected.
“He kept lookin’ up at the clock tower,” Nat told us.
“Not again...” I sighed.
“What’s wrong with the clock tower?” Alex aske.
“I was tellin’ him about the train I just thought it was weird he was lookin’ up there,” Nat shrugged.
“It figures. I guess I have some work to do,” I stood. “See you both soon!” I smiled and headed out as they both said goodbye.
Tombstone.
I walked down the street and saw the crowd in front of the sheriff’s office. “What the...” I started. I walked over to the group and called out, “Aly?!”
“What’s happened, Nim?” David asked the girl who I hadn’t seen since she’d worked as law in Diamond.
“A lot David, and it’s still happening, watch yourself,” Nim watched the door.
“People getting shot... and them some more people got shot... and then some more people got shot after that..” Julie said.
“What the heck?” I looked around.
“Well that’s descriptive,” David shrugged.
“Better stay away Trin!” Aly shot from inside the office and I blinked at that.
“She about summed it up,” Nim said. “I think Marshal Jameson is dead.”
I sighed hearing that and walked over to Trent. “You see what happened?”
“Hi Trin,” Pet greeted.
“Go shoot them, lady,” Mikey looked up at me.
“I can’t... I’m just a detective. I need to be deputized by one of them to do anything.”
“I was upstairs measuring thread count in the linen closet. I heard shootin’ but figured I was as safe as safe can be,” Pet told me.
“Well they carrying him away,” Mikey watched the nurse bringing a body out to the undertakers’ but my eyes were focused on the group.
“Wow there are a lot of people in there,” said a man I didn’t recognize. “I saw when the door opened.”
“Don’t think we’ve met,” I looked at him.
“Nice badge ya go there Ma am.”
“Pet... Has anyone seen Miss Angi around?” Kate asked.
“Howdy my name is Bard,” he introduced himself.
“Bard, nice to meet you. Were you here when any of this went down?”
“No I just walked into town out of the Mountains where my cabin is.”
“Oh I see,” I smiled. “That’s probably a good thing. How did the trial go today?” I looked over at Pet.
“Yep I think it is, cause yesterday I was hit by a stray bullet while walking down the street,” Bard said.
“You got shot?” I blinked.
“Yes.”
“Ooooh, she was found not guilty,” Pet told me.
“Thank God,” I smiled but then touched the man’s left arm, “Are you alright, Sir?”
“Yes good doctor Nora healed me.”
“Oh good,” I nodded. “I need to figure out what’s going on in there... My best friend, the sheriff, is in there.”
“Oh no, who is that?”
“Alyssa Stone.”
“Oh I met her yesterday.”
“I heard her shout so I guess she’s okay, sorta,” I looked at Pet.
“She is very nice,” Bard nodded.
“That she is,” I nodded.
“In fact she gave me an application to apply to become a deputy.”
“Married to my other best friend, Alex,” I smiled. “I was the best man at their wedding. Oh did she? That would be fantastic for you to be law!”
“Yep we need to clean up the vermin in this town,” Bard said.
“Mmhmm, that we do.”
I looked over and sighed seeing Kimmee and a woman I didn’t recognize by the sheriff’s office. I looked back at Bard with a concerned expression and said, “I don’t like the looks of this. Not a dang thing I can do ‘bout it either.”
“OWwww JESS JEEBUS ya diggin for gold in there!” Aly shouted and I sighed hearing her, but was relieved Jess was there.
“Teela, did you see anything?” I looked at the woman standing near us.
“I saw Amos, bringing a captive to the office, and shortly after the shooting started,” Teela said.
“Do you know who the captive was?”
“No. He had long red hair and a beard. I haven’t met him before.”
“Did you see anything else?” I asked.
“But he was wounded in the shooting earlier. Amos brought him from the clinic to here,” Teela said as I noticed Jamie walking over.
“Anything else?”
“I saw Kris standing in front of the office. then two guys came and they went in, but I couldn’t see who they were. and a few moments later Amos came with his prisoner.”
“Can I hand this witness statement that I wrote out and get you to sign it hon?” I held the statement I’d been writing to Teela.
“I only saw it from the corner of my eye as I was talking to someone else.”
“I have the feeling I’ll need to give this to someone at some point.”
She signed the report and handed it back to me. “I’m sorry that I was not of bigger help.”
“It’s okay hon, this is a good start. Wish someone else saw something too.”
“Kate, don’t make me come out there!” I heard Garth shouting from inside the jail.
“I seen some stuff but not much, Trin,” Trent said.
“Yeah Trent? Perhaps we’re not the safest out here,” I suggested.
“Maybe if you ask at the clinic who was wounded today then you could maybe find out who he is,” Teela suggested.
“That’s a good idea,” I nodded.
“Yeah...it is all sort of jumbled in my mind though,” Trent said.
“Let’s try and sort it out then,” I said and got out a blank sheet of paper. “I’m listening, Trent.”
“I do wonder how Trin is doing on the investigation, one of us will surely need that information,” I heard Dave say to Nim down the street.
“I been drinking to be honest miss Trin... that trial worried me..and now all this...oh and I guess being shot too...”
There was another gunshot and I suggested, “Let’s move inside with the children, shall we?” I didn’t like the idea of Jamie and Mikey being out in the midst of all the shooting. “Come on, Trent.” When we were inside in the lobby I asked, “Do you remember any details, Trent?”
“I was sitting out front of the russ after the trial. I was having some whiskey..miss Julie was there then we seen Mister Garth go by.”
“Julie... that’s the girl in front of the door then.”
“Yes, she is Miss Angi’s friend that was there with her at your show in Bisbee,” Trent smiled.
“I see. What else happened?”
Pet screamed then and I jumped at that as Jamie looked startled and I held out my hand for her as I listened to Trent.
“Then heard shouting...then shooting down towards the doctor’s office...then lots more shooting.”
“Who shot whom? Did you see specifically?”
“Miss Pet? Are you ok miss?” Trent asked Pet as Bard guarded the door to make sure we were safe.
“No golly not at all, Miss Trin. I didn’t even know I was shot for a while...”
“Well it’s a start. Got a couple names out of ya. Can you sign this for me?” I asked and handed him the paper and he signed it. “Pet, you see how this all started?”
“I don’t even know what this is. I was servin’ a meal,” Pet admitted.
“Seems Aly’s in the sheriff’s office with some outlaws. Jess is in there lookin’ after her, accordin’ to her shout,” I told her. “Guess there was some shootout right after the trial for Angi.”
“Punk come round. he was talkin to the Judge Rubble and his wife,” Pet said. “I served strawberry pie.”
“Punk?!?!” I reached for the stair railing and muttered, “Damn it.”
“He seem upset that Angi was beaten so badly,” Pet said. “Mmhmm, Punk.”
“I’ll be back in a few minutes,” Teela said and walked away.
“He who?” I asked.
“Leave my fiance alone!” we heard Seth call from in the jail.
“I kinda sorta maybe whispered in Punk’s ear that it was Garth who done it, since he was askin’,” Pet exclaimed. “He pays and leaves and guess who walks down the street? Garth. Law, Garth and Punk all shootin up a storm. Next I know... Punk guns him down. Seth hauls him to the clinic. I reckon cause I didn’t see it. When they leave the clinic to put Garth in jail the real battle begins. I imagine wild bunch went after law, Aly, Seth and Kris. By the time I come out from my linen closet, it was all quiet like it is now,” she screamed again and composed herself.
I finished writing Pet’s statement and handed it to her, “Can you read this over and sign it for me hon? I don’t want to wait on this. Those are the names we needed.”
“What the hell, is he laying on the ground?” Pet asked.
Trent handed me his signed statement and I nodded to him, “Thank you, Trent.”
“Miss Pet do you need anything? Or shall I stand here and guard?” Bard asked.
Pet signed the report and handed it back to me. “Thank you so much, Pet,” I said to her.
“Welcome.”
“Ya’ll just gave us the case,” I smiled.
“I should go see if I can help carry folks,” Trent said.
“Be safe,” I nodded to Trent.
“What case?” Pet asked.
“I want to finish attaching all this together and creating a statement report so Aly can arrest these guys,” I said.
“Who?”
“The people you just told me ‘bout, Pet,” I looked at her.
“Oh. Sorry, a lot has happened.”
“It’s okay, hon.”
“So who you goin’ after?”
“Let me work through this first.”
“Sure.”
“That’s a lot to sift through,” I winked.
“Ya’ll hungry? I got some beans goin’,” she said.
“Pet, which Wild Bunch? Lot? Mac?” I asked.
“Like I said, I was in the linen closet. I could hear Lot yellin. Don’t know who else was involved, I didn’t see ‘em. But I know all three law was down.”
“So you didn’t see who killed Kris?” I asked.
“I was standing at the top of the stairs when the shootin stopped. Trent was goin on and on about having been shot in the spot someone else was standing in.”
“Alright so... Punk and Garth for unholstered weapons and shooting without killing... Unless one of them killed Kris cause I heard he was killed. I have to find out who killed Kris, and I have to find out which Wild Bunch members were specifically involved in the shootout.”
“Dunno,” Pet shrugged.
“Think that’s my to do list on this case,” I said. “I’m going to head to the clinic. You’re good here, Bard?”
“Yes I am Trin, unless you need for me to do anything,” he nodded.
“Thanks, darlin’. Keeping the kids and Miss Pet safe are number one. And well, Teela of course but she’s got guns I think. Not that I can deputize you or anything,” I winked. “Just nice to know they ain’t completely defenseless.”
“Okay I will keep the kids safe,” Bard winked back.
“I’ll buy you a drink later,” I winked and headed to the clinic.
I opened the door and watched as the girls took care of the patients. Garth, Seth, and a girl that Kate called Mel were laying on the beds and I stood back quietly as I watched to see what kind of position the patients were in.
“Sorry Trin been one hell of a day,” Kate nodded to me.
“Don’t mind me, just wanted to get some names so I can talk to them later. Now I’ve got that, I’ll keep wandering and see if the folks are out of the office yet.”
I walked outside and saw Balt and a woman and a child standing in the street. I doubted I’d get any information but I asked anyway, “Did you guys see anything?”
“Evening Trin, it’s been a while,” Balt tipped his hat.
“Hello Balt. Indeed it has. See anything about this mess at the jail?”
“Nope. ‘sides, wouldn’t tell you if I had.”
“I figured,” I nodded. “Can’t hurt to ask, right?” I winked.
“Hey there, Trin,” the woman said to me.
“Hi ma’am, don’t think we’ve met yet.”
“No I don’t think we have, I am Enya.”
“Hi Enya. I’m Detective Trin Paige. Tryin’ to figure out what happened with this shootout.”
“Indeed, even I was struggling to figure out what was going on.”
“Alright well I need to keep at it while everyone’s still around. Stay safe, folks.”
“I’ve just been starin’ at pretty ladies all day,” Balt shrugged.
I saw Dave helping TJ down the street and sighed. “What the hell’s going on, Dave?” I asked. “Dave? Can we talk outside?”
“Hey Trin. Yeah,” he nodded.
“Talk to me,” I looked at him.
“Well how are you? Read any good books lately?”
“Dave.... what do you know about all this? Anything?”
“I know I was at the wrong place at the wrong time thats for sure!”
“Start from the beginning.”
Dave took a breath and explained, “Well I walked into what seemed like a warzone , I spotted follow prosecutor Nim and there was more gun fire things seemed to calm down some so I went to Kate’s to clean the register, don’t want that getting too dirty ya know. When I returned the ranger Seth was shot apparently a second time, I walked into the sheriffs office got lock in TJ tries to stupidly arrest them guys and well gets shot and now I am here,” he finally took a breath.”
“Who was all in the cell?”
“I heard quick draw, I mean Aly was in there,” he paused. “Not sure why unless she into some new kinky stuff.”
“Which wild bunch?”
“What?”
“Which bad guys were in there, Dave?” I sighed.
“Oh, um I saw Lot for sure.”
“Who else?”
“Um, I’m not sure. It happened so fast. I was locked in the office all I wanted to do was get out. I’m too handsome to die.”
“Oh I think this fella was in there too,” Dave said about a man walking over.
“Hi sir, don’t think we’ve met,” I looked over at him, but he walked into the clinic.
“That all you need Trin?” Dave asked.
“Can you read this and sign it for me hon?” I requested and handed him the statement. He signed it and handed it back, “I do that just to be nice. Not looking for any attention from it.”
“I didn’t shoot Kris! That’s ridiculous!” Aly shouted from the jail and I blinked, knowing that could never have happened. “This is getting out of hand.”
“Yeah but I heard Kris is dead.”
“And now I’ve gotta find out who did it,” I said and took Dave’s statement. “Thanks, hon.”
“Heard I think some one say Aly did.”
“That’s bull,” I shook my head. “Why would the sheriff shoot the town marshal?”
“I don’t know, could be a jealousy thing.”
“You know Aly beter than that,” I shook my head and walked into the clinic. “How we doin’ in here?” I asked and saw Seth looking over at me. “Hey you,” I greeted him.
“I think the worse is over finally,” Kate said. “Looks like this is the last one.”
“It ain’t over until Aly is out of that cell,” I told her.
“What?”
I looked over to Seth and asked, “Got enough strength to tell me what happened?”
“Long as ya want to hear it.”
“Three of them, holed up in the jail with the sheriff,” the man that Dave had referred to earlier said.
“Don’t know your name yet, Sir?” I looked at him.
“Early this afternoon had three of those wild bunch on the street wanting to call me out. one’s lot, second is Devil,” Seth started. “And Garth.”
“Call you out?” I asked.
“Name’s Kinney, and I walked into the jail during the confusion, tried to talk them into letting the ladies go,” the man said.
“Can you write me up a statement while I talk to Seth, darlin?” I handed a sheet of paper to Kinney.
“Went and arrested all three,” Seth continued. “Figure you would have needed that.”
“Okay so you went and arrested all three, then what, Seth?” I asked as Lot came into the clinic to check on Garth, and I tried hard to focus on Seth. “Seth... what happened when you went to arrest all three?” Seth tried to sit up when he saw Lot and I helped him back down, “Easy, Ranger. What happened when you arrested all three?” I asked again.
“Brang them here to get healed up.”
“Who shot whom?”
“Two left and kept one here. He’s walkin out that door now.”
“Seth, who else?” I asked and saw TJ get up to head out and I told him not to go too far.
“Didn’t know they were ambushing me till they locked the door,” Seth went on. “Then got shot down and blacked out.”
“Did you see who shot you?”
“That’s going to be a bit harder to remember.”
“It’s okay, I’ll ask folks who were there.”
“Figure it was Lot but I’d be just guessin’.”
“Think you could sign this hon?” I asked and handed him the sheet.
“When I came to I was here. Wasn’t done but sure,” he sighed.
“Do you have more? I can keep writing.”
“When I got back I looked for my fiance and went back. Got shot again and then blacked out again .. when I came to again this time I saw my fiance. Now I’m done.”
Kinney handed me his statement and I thanked him for it before getting Seth to sign his statement.
“Detective, I broke the key off in the lock of the back door. Odds are, unless they are a locksmith as well, the cant lock that door now,” Kinney told me.
“Fantastic,” I ndoded to him.
“Jess, can you write me a statement please?” I asked the nurse when I finally saw she wasn’t busy with patients.
“What kind of statement?” Jess asked.
“About what you saw hon,” I said to her. “In the jail. Can you write one too for me, Red?”
“I aw five assholes holding two women as hostage and forcing me to surrender against my will, that is what I saw,” Jess told me. “And not a single soul trying to help.”
“Can you give me names, Jess? And it sounds like there were lots trying to help or I wouldn’t be so busy.”
“And it won’t do a bit of good to write a report. They do as they damn well please.”
“Jess. Please tell me names and what you saw specifically. I’m writing reports right now. Work with me.”
“Should we start with the ringmaster?”
“Whoever.”
“Sorry Trin i am pissed , really pissed.”
“I get that. Help me and we’ll fix it. Seth, can you sign your statement for me please?”
“We can’t fix it.”
“Jess. All you have to do is tell me what you saw. Who you saw. It’ll help me a lot. And Aly will take care of it.”
“They run this place they are allowed to do what ever they want.”
“Jessica Jewels,” I was starting to get frustrated with her.
“Aly is probably dead.”
“Jess!” I exclaimed and then Seth handed me his signed report so I thanked him for it as Jess ran out and I went out after her.
“What!” Jess exclaimed from where she sat on the front steps.
“Look. We’ve got a huge mess here. I’ve got at least 6 statements and still have some questions to be answered. If you can give me your account, maybe you can tel something that the others don’t.” I saw Suzy walking into the clinic as wounded too and swore as I added her to my list of people to talk to. “If you want to take a bit to calm down that’s fine. But you could help me a lot. You were in there.”
“This just hasn’t been a good week for me. I lost the man I love, I lost Aly, I lost my temper and almost lost my license,” Jess went on.
“You haven’t lost Aly yet. Help me help Aly.”
“What do you need”
“Tell me what you saw. Who you saw. From the beginning.”
“Who the whole Wild bunch gang except Mac and a few new recruits. Lot, Sniper, Devil Hands.”
“See? Two names I didn’t have before.”
“That new guy kenny something.”
“Can you tell me what happened?”
“I was called into the jail to treat Aly, and at first everything seemed fine. I know I was surrounded by the Wild Bunch. Garth too.”
“Lilly?” Seth asked as he walked out of the clinic.
“Yes she was up front. Is she okay? Kate was there up front too the whole place was loaded with injured.”
“Anything else hon?”
“What is happening out here?” Lilly asked as she walked over.
“I tried to stop him and put a scalpel in his ribs,” Jess went on. “Him that was one that kenny guy who just ran by. He was there too.”
“Kinney, right. I got his statement,” I nodded.
“Okay can you catch me up?” Lilly begged. “I ran home for a few. I left after I worked onSeth.”
“Statement, he was one of them!” Jess exclaimed.
“What happened after you did the scalpel thing, Jess?” I asked. “Kinney was trying to talk the bad guys into letting the girls go, Jess.”
“Devil knocked it out of my hands and Lot decided to put the rules on me that I had to surrender according to the rules and me and him went round and round. You know Trin, I really believe they are sorry they ever made me a doctor, cause ever since they have been trying and trying to get me out of here.”
“Jess, focus,” I sighed. “Was there anything else after you two went round and round?”
“Nothing. I surrendered according to the rules even though I didn’t agree with them and believe they are wrong cause they don’t play fair.”
“So then how’d you get from there to the clinic again?” I asked.
“They forced me to leave under the rules of surrender.”
“Alright, can I give this to you and get you to sign it?” I asked and handed her the statement. “Will take two seconds.”
“Can you fill out a statement for me too hon? You were in the jail I think,” I looked at Kate as she walked out.
“Yes I was when they called for help,” Kate nodded.
“Would love to get your account on paper if you could,” I handed her a sheet of paper.
“It was a night mare in there,” Kate nodded.
“Yeah, Red... You’re my eighth statement and I ain’t even done.”
I got Jess to sign the statement and then heard that Aly was down the street. I ran down the street and hugged her tightly, relieved beyond words to see that she was okay. Seth made a comment that he liked my work on statements and Aly assured that she was okay.
Bard and I went to Diamond for drinks at the saloon to calm down but it didn’t really help as I was still so stressed from the busy evening. We went to the theatre and watched Aly perform in the drama group but I left early to get some rest after a long day.
