May 20, 1900

Black Diamond.

I greeted Alex as I walked outside this morning and I he asked how I was doing. “I had an interesting evening last night...”

“Oh yeah? Want to tell me about it over coffee?”

“Sounds great,” I said and followed him to the cafe. We sat down in the cafe and poured ourselves some coffee.

“So, what’s up?”

“Well... those two guys who were at the gig last night? They’re both outlaws from a long time ago. I have a cold case on Dominic.”

“What’s he wanted for?” Alex asked.

“Well... when I first moved to Tombstone, Ansar gave me a bunch of names he couldn’t find... Dominic was one of them. Not sure if he still has a warrant out or not, but I asked Matt to look into it for me. So then.... Matt asked me to the dance at Kate’s.”

“Oh yeah?” he raised his eyebrows and grinned.

“Mmhmm. We danced and had a really good time together. Then he took me home and I invited him inside,” I smiled.

“Wow, I guess the dance went well then,” he grinned wider.

“We’re so comfortable with each other, Alex. I don’t know but I have a good feeling,” I sipped my coffee slowly.

“Comfortable is good! That’s a really important thing, actually.”

“Yeah, we’ll see what happens. I told Aly and Matt about the two guys so they knew what they were dealing with but Aly didn’t really seem all that... I don’t know. She was more concerned that I danced with outlaws.”

“She’s just worried about you.”

“But I have to do my job though...”

“I know.”

“And that’s all it was. I just wanted to see if they were the same still or if they’d changed. I’m still not sure yet..”

“You mean, you’re not sure if they’re still outlaws?” he asked and I nodded. “People do sometimes change, just be careful. Though I don’t have to remind you of that.”

“Yeah... That’s why I was bringing them to Kate’s where I knew there would be law around.”

“That’s a good idea. You’re smart about those kind of things so I’m not too worried.”

“Thank you. At least you understand that I know what I’m doing...” I sighed. “Aly’s been kinda.... distracted lately and not really around. I miss her, Alex.”

“Yeah, she’s been very busy lately.”

“As excited as I am that you’re getting married... I’m looking forward to the wedding to be over, to be honest.”

“I miss our morning coffees.”

“I already think of you as married.”

“We pretty much already are.”

“So then why don’t you just move to Diamond?”

“I practically live here already. I’m always at Aly’s house. More than my own. I just want to keep appearances all proper.”

“So... I’ve got some news,” Alex announced then.

“Yeah?”

“I’m going to apply to be a doctor.”

“That’s fantastic news hon! You deserve that promotion!”

“I have to prove to them that I can do all sorts of different healing so I’m going to show them when you broke your ribs.”

“Glad I could help,” I winked. “So how long does that process take?”

“I’m exciting about it. I think I’m ready now.”

“I think you are too!”

“It takes awhile - I have to give my application to the medical board to look over then they have to meet and discuss it then interview me so it could be a few weeks to a month.”

“I hope that everything works out hon... I think you’ll be great at it.”

“Thanks!” he smiled. “I’ve been writing my application this morning. Hoping to send it in today or tomorrow at the latest.”

“Don’t have much going on in the work department... No cases open at all. Other than potentially this one with Dom coming back up but it depends on the warrant status.”

“Something will probably come up soon,” he nodded and drank his coffee.

“You think so? I mean I sit around all week waiting for something to do and then when the court docket comes I prepare cases. IF I get to be a prosecutor I do it and then get shut up in court and my witnesses get attacked.”

“Something ALWAYS comes up eventually. Ugh, court.”

“Sometimes I wonder....” I sighed.

“Don’t be down about it. You’re good at what you do. It’s everyone else.”

“Yeah... I can be proud that I did a good job I just don’t like being disrespected, you know?”

“Yes, I completely understand that.”

“I didn’t even bother objecting by the time he had Pet and Ivy up there. They weren’t even at the event. And Ivy’s husband was my lead witness. Explain how I’m not supposed to object to that? I was so tired objecting his harassing my witnesses I didn’t even bother.”

“That must get really tiring. Sometimes, it is easier to just let it go.”

“I know... it just... Sorry, you’re right,” I nodded and he reached over to pat my hand. “It wouldn’t be such a problem if it didn’t keep happening every weekend.”

“That seems like too much frustration to me.”

“Exactly my point.... So are you going to be around for the meeting tomorrow? At 4?”

“Yeah I should be able to make it. It’s kind of an odd time for me, but I’ll make do.”

“You’re just not usually in town that late.”

“I know. It’s not the best time, but..” he shrugged and we finished our coffee before going out to get some work done.

This evening, Matt came over to my apartment and we talked about our day. Matt told me that Rikki was acting up and wanting to shoot a gun in the air to wake up Aly. We talked about how I had nothing to do and we went to cuddle on the couch for the rest of the night.
