October 10, 1869

Amiville.

I walked into town this evening and saw Mel, Jake and Chels in the wagon. They said they were going to practice shooting and I waved to them as they rode off. I talked with Sara about how I had been working a lot today and she told me that Bill beat up Karan and Chane.

“I saw the group walk out of there and saw the aftermath with Karan and Chane but didn’t know what it was about,” I told her.

“Right, me too. Only saw the aftermath. But gramps can tell you the blow by blow. He’s really mad about it.”

“I bet he could,” I nodded. “Well guess we should head to the saloon.”

“Ok, I’m headed over there in a minute.”

I walked into the saloon and found a group of people there already. Rosa greeted me but I nodded to her without a word. I sat down besides TJ and Rosa went to talk to the sheriff about something. TJ and Karan were talking about someone getting pregnant in one day and I told TJ about what happened with the horsemen and Rosa at the church.

“She tried to sell ya to outlaws?” TJ looked at me with surprise.

“They were surrounding the church and wouldn’t leave us alone. So that’s what she told them but they just kept bugging us and Bill kept making fun of me for hiding in holy places.”

“Oh my god, Trin!” Karan exclaimed.

“But I have no idea how they knew we were in the church.”

“Did ya two turn them into the law?” TJ asked.

“I talked to Clif about it. He said he’d talk to Rosa but I haven’t heard a word since. But Clif was outraged. As was I.”

“And what about Bill? Did anyone arrest him?” TJ asked.

“Haven’t interacted with him since. Talk to Clif. I don’t know what’s happened since our conversation.”

“He should be arrested.”

“Somebody should,” I muttered. “It was bloody wrong, TJ. I slept in the church till the next morning when I knew it was safe.”

“Who else was with him?”

“I heard Sniper, Nell...”

“And ya were stuck in there with Rosa?”

“And Logan. He was trying to talk Rosa down.”

“Poor thing.”

“Still scared to walk out alone. Not sure what they want from me. I thought I was done with them.”

“You said you’re law, Trin... That’s why they want ya,” Brendan said. “That’s the price you pay for being law.”

“No Brendan, it’s deeper than that. Bill and I have a history.”

“I just thought he was done with threatening me,” I sighed.

“Ohh no details please,” Brendan frowned.

“Not sexual history, Brendan. Violence.”

“Mhmm but there’s no one here who isn’t threatened by him. Ask Karan,” Brendan said.

“Like him beating me up in here last night?” Karan asked.

“I’m not speaking to Rosa right now because of it, so if ever I need a judge I’m coming to you or Clif,” I said.

“If you all will excuse me ... I am going to head to bed,” Karan said and we said goodnight. I noticed something romantic between Brendan and Karan and smiled at them, thinking I’d have a man if I weren’t so busy. Brendan said goodnight as well and left the saloon.

Jackson came in then and We talked for a while and then Bill walked in and towards us. I sat with my arms folded and looked him without moving.

“Bill ya have a lawyer?” TJ asked him.

“Fer whats?” Bill asked.

TJ looked at me and said, “Miss Trin here is filing charges on ya.”

“Fer what?”

“Fer what, he says...” I muttered.

“Ya I asked fer what ya lil tramps,” Bill looked at me. “So answers me TJ fer whats?”

TJ stuck his notepad back in his vest and said, “Threats. Easy, Bill.”

“What threats..hell I aints seens nothin of hers but her backs runnin ta that Logans feller.”

“And yet ya came around the church threatenin me about hiding in holy places.”

“Well ya gonna need a lawyer. I’m gonna have to issue a warrant. Ya better turn ya self in make it easy.”

“That weren’t fer me that was someone else I wanted ta talks with that loads mouth Logans.”

“Bill will get a copy of the warrant,” TJ promised.

“Sure ya did. How come ya were talkin me up then?” I asked.

“You were in the dang ways ..oh Logan oh Logans.. lil hussy..”

“And making fun of me for hiding behind him?” I asked.

“What nows ya hittins on TJ?” he looked at him.

“No,” TJ shook his head.

“And telling me that the bullet would go through Logan even if he was acting as a shield against me?” I looked at him.

“She’s in fear for her life,” TJ told him.

“Cause ya can’t keep ur big nose outta the ways and that big mouths shuts...”

“Bout what, Billl? Tiggy came to me. I didn’t say a word. Didn’t have to,” I said.

“Thars a few womens heres that wants you in the dirts.”

“Bill not wise to say things like that,” TJ warned. “Won’t be good for ya case.”

“I says whats I wants... Ya knows thats by now ya horse theif.”

I raised an eyebrow and drank my whiskey calmly, then followed TJ out to the courthouse where he was going to write up a warrant. I asked if I could sleep in the courthouse and he said he would lock up when he left. I curled up on the couch and fell asleep.
