April 15, 1870

Oregon.

This morning I was sitting with Kilyko on the front deck looking out at the lake when Adder came over and tipped his hat to us. “Howdy all.”

“So you two gonna fill me in on what I missed last night or what?” I looked between them.

“I lit the loot boat on fire in kingsley....and left them a body….” Kilyko looked over at Adder, who chuckled.

“Whose body?” I rose an eyebrow.

“A Mexican’s,” Kilyko laughed.

“You know there’s not a part of that I don’t need explained?” I chuckled.

“It is what it is,” Kilyko laughed.

“And adder what did YOU do last night?” I looked at him.

“Slept,” he said simply and I rolled my eyes. “What? You were here when I got back from my trip.”

“Uh huh... Then I went to bed early. You coulda done anything after that,” I winked at him.

“Aye, but I didn’t.”

I decided to wander around and then came back to join them on the deck. Snowy wandered over towards me and Kilyko and I talked about how Snowy and Adder’s dog Saiya had a history.

Snowy and I went for a walk and I saw a woman I hadn’t met yet. We talked about how I was new in the area, but she lived over in Nebraska. I went back to the whicker chairs by the water and pulled out my notebook.

A couple of hours later, Adder rode home and I asked him to come join me. He put his saddlebags back to the house and I smiled to him, “This is officially my new favorite spot. So what you been up to? Causin fires?”

“Dealin’ cards,” he chuckled.

“Oh really?” I perked.
“Dealt the dead man’s hand. One on Free Feather’s mailbox, and threw another at her scumbag lawyer.”

“Can’t wait to see how that plays out,” I chuckled.

“With them dead.”

“I think I’m going to head over with Tom and look at more houses!”

“Have fun!” he nodded and I headed off to continue house hunting with Tom.
