February 12, 1870

Georgetown.

This evening I played piano at the saloon and then Sugar asked to play Poker. Tom said that the last time he played poker he lost his boot and knife.

“Ya’ll hear the Cherokee are movin out?” I asked, looking around the room. “Received a telegraph about that just before the show.”

“Yeah,” Suzy nodded.

“I’m still in shock,” I shook my head.

“I will miss the Cherokee,” Sugar said.

“Anything gonna be built over there? or did some ranchers already claim the land?” Tom asked.

“No idea. Tom we should go see if Chet’s in the office and find out if there’s any updates,” I said then, thinking we needed to talk more than play Poker.

Tom and I headed to the sheriff’s office and knocked on the door. Chet walked out and greeted us. “We were wondering if there’s any updates we should know about,” I said to him.

“I was gonna ask you. I been plum out of town ‘till now,” Chet said as we walked into the office.

“Haven’t seen a thing all day. Ya both missed me singin’ again,” I looked between them.

“I know. I need to put it on a calendar,” Chet muttered.

“Same time every week,” I Chuckled.

“I had something to do earlier, or else i’d have been there. Next week I’ll try to be there,” Tom promised.

“Well should we go for a walk and see what trouble we get into?” I asked them.

“I suppose so. What do you have in mind?” Tom asked.

“Just walk around the block or somethin’,” I looked at Chet.

“I gonna do some paperwork,” Chet shrugged.

“Join me Tom?” I nodded and looked at him.

“Sure. Lead the way.”

We walked over to the Pinkerton office and then I hugged him when we were finally alone. We had been spending a lot of time together the last few days and were growing a strong connection between us.

He smiled and asked, “Hey, can I ask you something?”

“Of course,” I stepped back.

“Would you go to the valentine’s dance with me?”

“I would love to,” I smiled, nodding and hugging him again. I leaned back and said, “You know, we could always just go to my place above the office. I’ve got a comfortable couch…"

“That sounds like a good idea.” I took his hand and led the way to my apartment where we relaxed with each other for the rest of the night.
