December 12, 1900

Tombstone.

I walked down the street and waved to the group in front of the hotel. Dominic commented on how he hadn’t made a withdraw from the bank lately. Angel asked me if I wanted to help if things got ugly and I told her I was available. I wandered over to the balcony of the undertaker’s office and looked around.

“Miss what are you doing?” asked a man looking up at me.

I leaned against the balcony with my book and called down, “Just readin’!”

“Uh hello everyone,” Dominic said as he walked towards the crowd.

“Aving a party in front of zeh bank?” Angel asked the men gathered in front of it.

“Yep if you’d call it that. Just wanted to make a withdraw,” Dominic said with a slow nod.

“Bank’s clozed for zeh evening miz Bree izn’t about,” Angel told him.

“Did I get deputized?” Grant yelled over at Angel.

“No, Grant,” Angel told him.

“Why not?”

Dominic looked over at Zeth and then Angel. “Damn that’s a shame. It really is imperative that I make this withdrawal today.” He laughed then and looked around. “Look at this they are already thinking about deputizing innocents!”

“I shot that Dom before, remember?” Grant asked Angel “Angel, deputize me… I am in the cavalry now… just off duty.”

“Seems my dog figures something’s wrong. Only reason she growls,” Zeth said to Dominic.

“Yeah I remember, you pulled a gun in a fist fight. Real heroic,” Dominic said and shrugged to Grant. “Maybe it needs to be put down. Seems a bit out of control.”

“Maybe I was talking about you,” William says to Zeth, "Get lost, mutt.”

“It’s best not to do anything to my dog,” Zeth said and told his dog. “Heel, girl.”

“Let’s all calm down and you go back where ya came from,” Another man I didn’t recognize said.

“I’m not deputizing you till you learn to follow law procedure and secondly learn your role az a calveryman,” Angel told to Grant and I chuckled, continuing to pretend reading.

“Better tell your dog to relax mister,” said one of the men.

“Nah, it’s better this way. Want I say ‘sick him’ instead?” Zeth asked.

Dominic pointed to himself and laughed harder. “Me? Boy I was just trying to make a deposit. How’s about you get off this side of the street with your remarks I’m fine where I am.”

“And what are we doing wrong?” Anthony laughed.

Dominic touched his pistol and said, “Wouldn’t do that Zeth. It’d be a shame to put a beautiful animal down.”

“Now az I said before,” Angel looked back at Dominic. “The bank iz clozed. Iz not opening again tonight, you’ll ave to vait for tomorrow, no if’s and’z or buttz. Now am azking you gentlemen to step aside az the bank door needz to be fixed.”

I watched Dominic touch his gun and looked towards Angel, waiting for her signal as Anthony and Zeth both tapped their sides too, as did the other two men I didn’t know. As everyone started to draw their guns, I drew mine and then the bullets started to fly. I waited and didn’t shoot Dominic as he hadn’t shot his gun first. Dominic said something about unarmed men and I looked around carefully.

“What the hell was that for?! You find it honorable to shoot an unarmed man, you coward?!” William McCoy sputtered as he fell to his knee.

I holstered my gun just as Dominic started to pull his guns free and began to shoot. “That’s it I am done with this. You’re all going there with them.”

I drew my gun again and fired off a few rounds without hitting anyone and then went slowly downstairs as the gunshots faded. I holstered my gun and went to the clinic, waiting as I listened to the grumbling inside. Bree was healing patients and Angel was guarding the men carefully.

“Hi Trin, seems the law did a great job,” Grant said to me.

“They sure did. I was waiting from above but only one in my view was Dom and he hadn’t drawn yet. So I wasn’t gonna shoot him down first. The rest were taken care of.”

“Well you fools shoot unnarmed men. I had to respond,” Dominic said with a sigh. His shoulder only had a few specks of blood on it.

“Good…” Grant said. “I was shot before I could even drag my gun. Am I okay?” He flopped about on the floor and asked, “Am I okay?”

“It grazed me left arm.” The one I didn’t know held his arm.

“You all vare gunz no vnone iz unarmed sirz,” Angel said and pointed to each man.

“I can’t tell you that Grant, I’m no doc,” I said as I looked at Grant.

Jess and Bree continued to heal up those who were wounded and Strider said, “Ya go touchin yer guns with law around, watch out. It a hostile act.”

“So what’s the jail time for touching my guns?” Anthony asked.

“But why do I seem to be on the floor, eye-level with your boots, Trin?” Grant asked me.

“Hm shouldn’t be a law official if you’re so jumpy then,” Dominic said.

“And you’ll find out your finez and timez in cellz,” Angel said.

“Were you shot, Grant?” I asked.

“Sheriff, I do have one here for you,” Zeth said.

“Alvright, Zeth,” she nodded to him.

“Well what’s the sentence this time?” Dominic asked with a sigh.

“Obly in the arm and Jess stitched me up and bandaged it… Maybe I tried to leave too soon… huh?” Grant asked.

“You face off, you fair game,” Strider said with a shrug.

“Soon az all three are treated ve’ll take em to a cell in mine office,” Angel said.

“Might want to sit down, Grant,” I advised.

“As the sheriff said you’ll find out at the sheriff’s office,” Zeth told them.

“Yes I will, Trin,” Grant said to me and took a seat.
“Sorry Sheriff!” A man called out then and I wondered who on earth the person was.

“Alright take me there now,” Anthony said as he stood.

“You sure you’re seen?” Zeth asked Grant.

“Ooh yes, much better,” Grant said.

“Yeah, Jessica helped me,” Anthony answered.

“Relax mister otherwise you’ll be put down again,” Dominic said to Strider.

“Trin why you waiting here if you are not wounded?” Grant asked.

“Hey Angel? You busy at the moment?” I asked her and then looked over at Grant. “I’m doing my job as a Pinkerton, Grant.”

“Sheriff want I bring this one to the court house till your ready?” Zeth asked.

“Just bring me to the office so I know my time,” Anthony said.

“I know, jus standing and being shot,” Strider said.

“Kinda like my friends, but hey like you said with them threatening motions and such,” Dominic pointed out.

Angel helped Dominic up on the table to get healed and I looked around the room. “So who wants to tell me who shot whom?” I asked, still wanting the full story, since I hadn’t seen much once they’d gone around the other side of the bank.

“Trin, can you vatch Dominic and Nick?” Angel asked and I nodded. To Zeth she nodded and thanked him.

“Nick huh? That’s the other one’s name? Didn’t know about you yet,” I looked over and said.

“It grazed my arm. The man shot me for no reason,” Nick held his arm.

“Uh huh. Who shot you?” I asked as I heard Angel thank the other man for his help, who appeared to be called Jesse.

“The bald man,” Nick told me.

“Which one? Dominic?” I asked.
“I’m looking at. Don know the feller,” Strider said.

“Did anyone give you the bullet as a souvenir, Strider?” I asked.

“No ma’am.”

“Dang. Was hoping to get it for my files,” I said.

“Should keep it. The next one you won’t be able to retrieve,” Dominic said with a smile.

“I always retrieve my bullets, Dominic,” I told him.

“It still in my ass cheek,” Strider announced.

“Trin… I could not help but overhear,” Grant said. “The one Jess is treating is William and the other one is nicknamed Dom.”

“I know there names Grant, but thank you,” I said to him.

“That one behind you Trin is the other James boy,” Grant went on with introductions.

“Nick name? That’s my real name fool,” Dominic said with a frown and swore as he was being healed by Bree. “How does this man know that? You some kinda witch or wizard or something? That ain’t my brother fool.”

“I shot you before remember ‘Dom’,” Grant said with a grin.

“Sorry ma’am,” Dominic said as he calmed down a bit.

“How can I work like this?” Bree asked as she cooled Dominic’s face and tried to work on him. “Quit listening to others listen to me.”

“Nick you got a last name?” I asked.

“Don’t remember if I do,” he said with a shrug.

“Yeah…” Dom laughed. “Shot me.. while I was unnaremed. Hey pal when I get outta jail lets have a duel. It’ll be fair. I’ll stop yer bragging. Though you got no reason.”

“I mean it,” Bree said insistently and started working on his wound.

“You can bring in Nick James here, Zeth. If he’s ready,” I said.

“Keep these fools out of here, this place is for treatment,” Dominic said.

“Make sure you cuff him, Zeth. Or keep him cuffed,” I said to Zeth. I looked Nick over as Zeth grabbed his cuffs.

“Take me to jail,” Nick said.

“Well if only it was always that easy,” I said with a smile. Since I didn’t have any bullets to collect this time, I watched as Zeth cuffed Nick and took him out of the clinic.

“Is easier when you quiet,” Bree said and I couldn’t help but chuckle.

“You alright, Strider?” I asked, still chuckling.

“Trin… You need my help in any way here?” Grant asked.

“I think we’re good Grant, thank you,” I told him. “Just watching William. Dom’s the only one we have to bring in still. Thanks Jess for being here. We appreciate it,” I told her as Bree continued to work.

“Hey Bree is here too,” Jess said defensively.

“No you don’t really want to talk me in. We both know this. How’s about we get a few drinks and catch up?” Dominic looked over at me as Bree finished up.

“Aww, you miss me Dom?” I chuckled at him.

“Yes ma’am its been a while,” he said with a smile.

“It sure has been a while. Ain’t my fault ya went and disappeared off on us.”

“Trin, am trying to make him listen to me,” Bree said to me.

“Yes Bree,” I said with a chuckle.

“Well we’ll have to catch up sometime.,” Dominic said with another smile at me and started to move towards the door. “Y’all have a good day now!”

I took Dominic’s cuffed hands and led him out of the clinic. “Come on, you.”

“See ya outside, Dom,” William began to limp out and nodded to me.

“Awh, you don’t have to do this,” Dominic said to me as I pulled him down the street.
“Actually I do,” I said with a smile, tugging him down the street. I knocked on the sheriff’s office door and called, “Delivery number two!”

“Was always a sucker for the rules huh?” Dominic smirked.

“Yep, when they deputize me I like to do the job well,” I said with a wink.

I led Dominic inside as Dee shouted in and asked how much it was for bail. Angel was searching her prisoner down and I told Dominic not to enjoy the search too much as I patted him down for weapons.

“Well I’m glad I had the privilege to be taken to such a wonderful place by a beautiful woman such as yourself,” Dominic said and gave me a charming smile. “Hopefully our next meeting is in a more pleasant manner.”

“Ma’m you need to leave,” Angel said to Dee as she’d found her way into the sheriff’s office.

Zeth put his prisoner into the cell and Anthony and Dee continued to ask for the bail amount. Angel told them she would give bail times when she comes out and called everyone to be out of the sheriff’s office who wasn’t law. As I put Dominic in the cell, Dee complained about the men getting locked up. Angel threatened that she would hold back bail as an option if they didn’t get out. Angel slammed the door shut in frustration and I let Angel search Dominic again, though I told her I did that already. She told Dominic to back up and he did so.

“Trin did a mighty fine job sheriff. Should keep her around,” Dominic told Angel and I couldn’t help but chuckle.

“Flattery will get you nowhere, Dom,” I told him. I turned over to Jesse and said, “Hi Sir, I’m Detective Trin Paige. Not met you before I don’t think.”

“I’m just being honest Trin. You do good work,” Dom told me.

“Thanks Dom, just can’t shoot worth a damn,” I told him. “And I worked too hard to get to where I am as a Pinkerton. But I will help the law in this capacity whenever I can.”

“Well that can always be taught Miss Paige,” Dominic said with a shrug and smiled at me. I smiled back at him but kept an eye on Jesse, curious of his story.

Jesse patted me on the shoulder and said, “I hear ya friend. Helping the law. It’s a good thing to do.”

I smiled and looked at him. “Good to have your help sir. Ever think of being law?”

“I hope to be one day,” he said with a nod.

“Don’t get a hold of yourself there friend. Law ain’t always a good thing. ’Less your brainwashed as well,” Dominic told him and laughed.

“Glad to hear that.” I smiled and looked forward to hearing the charges for Nick and Dominic so I could update my files.

“Alvright Nick,” Angel said then. “Your time iz 35 minutz. Az for mizter Dominic, hiz time iz 55 minutz.”

“I’ve been in here for thirty minutes already,” Nick complained.

“Can you tell me the charges for my files, Angel?” I asked her.

“Any bail ma’am? Would love to pay towards the funding of this amazing office,” Dominic said with a frown.

“Your time didn’t start till zat jail cell iz shut!” Angel shouted.

“It was shut before,” Nick said.

“Nine you can thank miz Dee, neither of you vill receive bail,” Angel told them.

“Well in that case the door has been shut a while?” Dominic frowned.

“You can’t say theres no bail, you’re abusing your power,” Nick argued.

“That isn’t fair. I didn’t instruct her to do that. I have the right to bail,” Dominic said.

“I am the law in charge here I decide if your allowed bail or not,” Angel said.

“You’re abusing yours by not listening to the sheriff,” Zeth said.

“Angel? Just for my files, who did Nick shoot?” I asked her again.

“And you’re going to decide on someone who isn’t apart of the case?” Dominic asked.

“Iz at my decretion vat you’re charged,” Angel said.

“I know that Dominic shot down Strider,” I said.

“Nick didn’t shoot anyvone. Vhy hiz time is thirty-five minutes,” Angel said. “Dominic, however, shot Strider and Anthony shot Jesse.”

“Where’s Anthony then?” I asked.

“He posted bail,” Nick said.

“Ah,” I said, understanding.

“Nick’s iz desturbing the peace, unholsteiring a vepon in town and vepon uzed in crime,” Angel said.

“How did I use a weapon in a crime?” Nick asked.

“Had your gun out,” Angel and I both said. “That’s a crime.”

“I took it out then put it away, and was shot immediately,” he argued.

“Still uzeing a vepon in a crime. Iz not for you all to argue vith me,” Angel told them.

“Just let it go. No point in reasoning with them,” Dominic told his brother.

“They’re terrible lawmen,” Nick said and shook his head.

“You’ll ave your day in court,” Angel promised. “And az for zeh no bail… You all can talk to miz Dee and thank her for that. I vill not tolerate somevone buzting into mine office demanding me to do mine job I’m trying to do and only be prolonged by them intruding.”

“Of course they are. Shes the law and what she says go. She plays god,” Dominic said with a nod to his brother. He turned to Angel and said, “We understand you ma’am, you have a nice day now. I’ll be seeing you around real soon.”

I sat down at the desk to get some paperwork as Angel continued to process Dominic and Nick. I worked on my witness statement and then Thomas walked into the office, making me look up as I finished. “Hey there, love.”

“Angel we got some very upset folk outside wanting to post bail,” Thomas told her.

“Danky Miz Trin,” Angel said to me and took the statement. “There iz no bail Thomas. Don’t let them in.”

“You might want to fill one out too,” I told Jesse and gave him a blank statement. “Will help in court.”
“Well anyone got any stories to tell?” Dominic asked with a sigh as he leaned back against his cot.

“Hi my dear. What do you mean there is no bail Angel?” Thomas said to me and then to Angel.

“Miz Dee decided to come in here and make a ruckus so am not allowing bail to be posted,” Angel told Thomas.

“Is Natalie okay?” I asked Thomas as Zeth suggested playing a banjo or his flute to pass the time.

“She is as good as can be expected. Last night took a toll on her,” Thomas said with a frown.

“Yeah, I’m leaving that case in your hands... You might want to talk to Grant about it and get a statement from him though. As nice as that flute playin’ is,” I said, listening to Zeth play the flute.

“Yeah. I will have to have a talk with him and this Anthony fellow when I see him also,” Thomas said.

“It’s in your hands love.”

“Trin, what happened here tonight? We got more shootin up the town or something?”

“They were hangin around the bank. When Angel told em to leave, Nick pulled his gun. Then gunfight happened. Angel deputized me so I watched Dom in the clinic and then brought him to the cell. Anthony paid bail… These two are waitin out their time. That sum it up Ang?” I asked her.

“My time’s almost up,” Nick announced.

“Miz Dee decided to come into mine office and make a ruckus vhile I vas trying to account there timez and bail,” Angel said. “So no bail for them if she’z going to not lizten to me.”

“What does Dee have to do with the two of them?” I asked.

“Dunnah but she vanted to pay their bail.”

“Well, if you all will excuse me, I will go handle those folks outside. I understand Angel, I just wondered why is all,” Thomas said then.

“But I vas in the middle of trying to account for everyhting and vas not abut to have her here squaking and causing a ruckus in mine office,” Angel said.
“Mmhmm,” I agreed.

“I understand. You did the right thing,” Thomas said.

“Who do I hand this to?” Jesse asked as he finished his statement.

“Also had a child vander in,” Angel said. “Me Jesse, danke.”

“If you need me Angel, I will be outside keep an eye on the town,” Thomas told her.

“Danke Thomas.”

“Do you need a statement from me?” Zeth asked as he stopped playing his flute for a second and we told him we would need it.

We continued to wait for the boys’ time to be up and I handed the deputy badge back to Angel, telling her I was happy with the one I had still, but that I’d be willing to help again if I was needed. Nick started to get edgy and I started to play cards on the table as I waited and then dealt out a poker hand with Jesse as we played and talked.

Suddenly outside we heard gunshots and Jesse jumped out of his chair, towards the door. I waited behind with Angel, hoping to just guard the prisoners and then Nick was let out of the cell as his time was up. William knocked on the door and asked to talk with Angel, but she shouted that no one was allowed inside until the jail time was out. Dee continued to shout about the bail holding back being unfair and they continued to argue about who was unarmed in the shootout. I stayed quiet and shuffled the cards, not wanting to get involved in the conversation. When I was tired with that I started to write in my notebook and then heard Anthony shouting about shooting and more gunshots went out.

“Is Thomas okay?” Zeth shouted then and I cringed,.

“Thomas is shot,” Jy shouted and Dom and I swore.

“Come on, Trin. I’ll let you out to cater to Thomas,” Angel said and unlocked the door for me and I ran out.

I ran out to the street and ran to his side, reaching for Thomas’ hand. “Baby, Thomas, can you hear me dear?”

“Trin! I need a doc bad!” Thomas exclaimed and I helped him to the clinic. “Did Will shoot Thomas?” I asked Zeth but he didn’t answer and I just pulled Thomas to the clinic, not thinking about anything else.

“Thomas, didn’t mean to take your thunder friend,” Jesse said as we came into the clinic.

“Lilly, thank God you’re here,” I said as I held the door open, seeing Lilly there already.

“Oh what happened?” Lilly asked with worry.

“Jesse, what happened? Better yet... :hands him another witness statement: You’re gonna be good at these.” I looked at him. I squeezed Thomas’ hand and looked at him. “It’s okay, love. It’s okay…”

“I will be there in a moment,” Lilly said.

“I’m here, honey…” I told him.

You are a dead man Jesse,” Will warned.

“Trin, can you hold pressure so I can assess the other wounded?” Lilly looked at me and I continued to hold Thomas’ hand as she said, “I will be right back.”

“I’m here darling, I’m here… Honey what happened, talk to me…”

“Hey Lilly just goy here heard the call for a Doc? Anything I can do to help?” Katelin said as she came into the clinic.

“Honey what happened, talk to me…” I looked at him. Looking over I said, “Oh Katelin, good.”

“Hello Trin,” Katelin said.

“I’m holding pressure on his side… Where he was shot. I’ll let you take over,” I told her and looked over. “Jesse, what happened?”

“It’s okay, at least he didn’t get away with it this time,” Thomas said. “I saw the bank door open. And I found Will there coming out claiming he went to rob it but it was already robbed. I wanted to ask him a few questions and he shot me.”

“I am going to go and hand my statement to Angel,” Jesse said with a sigh.

“So William robbed the bank and then you went to arrest him and he shot you down?” I asked as the doctors worked on his wound.

“Yes, I tried to be peaceful like, and the bastard shot me,” Thomas said to me.

“You did good, love. Just rest... They’ll take care of you,” I said and kissed his forehead.
“Then why did he shoot me for just wanting to ask a couple of questions?”

“It was robbed already,” Dee commented.

“It was Jesse,” Will said. “I saw him coming out of the bank on the roof.”

“But he was seen in the bank that’s still a offence,” Zeth said.

“And how do you know, Dee?” I asked her.

“And who are you? I was there,” she said to me.

“I’m a Pinkerton detective and mostly-married to this man laying on the bed beside me,” I told her. “Any other questions?”

“Yes, I was making sure no one was hurt inside,” Will said.

“Trin, seems this woman saw what happened,” Zeth said.

“Then get a statement from her, Zeth,” I told him.

“Thanks Trin, great job,” Lilly said to me and came over to work on Thomas’ wound.

“Yes I love this man beside me and don’t bother him you hear me?” Dee told me.

“Well now you can add shooting a peace officer to your list of crimes Mr. Will,” Thomas said and I couldn’t help but feel like her comment was sarcastic, and I focused on Thomas.

“You drew on me fool and started counting,” Will said to Thomas.

“I didn’t start counting. I drew before you ever come out of the bank cause I didn’t know who was in there.”

“How did he get in the bank? Angel said it was closed for the night,” I asked.

“Besides, I didn’t shoot you. It was Jesse,” Will said.

“Breathe love, breathe…” I said as I held his hand.

“Who else witnessed this, Dear?” I asked him.

“I saw the whole thing Trin,” Jesse said.

“Zeth, if you witnessed this gunfight, can you write a statement as well please?” I asked him. “Right and you wrote a statement when I came in and asked. I appreciate that, Jesse.”

“And Jesse shot the deputy,” Will said.

“Most my attention was with the James boys,” Zeth said.

“Starting to like you already, Jesse,” I said with a smile.

“I was protecting the deputy,” Will lied.

“Sure you were.”

“Hey, I have a witness.”

“Funny cause the deputy just said he saw you in the bank,” I said and squeezed Thomas’ hand.

“It’s okay love,” Dee assured him.

“How about just saying the truth?” Zeth asked. “Makes it easier on you, especially the guilt.”

“I was,” Will said. “I went in to see if everyone was ok I saw Jesse coming out the roof.”

“Thomas,” Jesse said, “Sorry I didn’t get him fast enough, my new friend.”

“Funny I don’t think I’m gonna believe you since Jesse helped the law tonight as well,” I said.

“And the money was gone check him,” Will said. “Perfect cover. Arrest him.”

“Jesse, just in case empty the pockets,” Zeth said. “Will show innocence or guilt.”

“Hey there Jesse...when did you start floating? I see fuzziness around all of you,” Thomas looked over and sighed.

“You ain’t wearin’ gloves are you? Would you be willing to give me a fingerprint to prove your innocence?” I looked over at Will.

“Why don’t you let Zeth do his job, miss, and leave Will alone?” Dee looked at me.

“Let the court decide. It’s your duty… Ouch,” Will said at his woman’s comment.

“Because my husband just told me Will’s responsible for shooting him,” I told her.

“Let Zeth do it,” Dee said.

“I’m bleeding here,” Will complained as Lilly continued to work on him.

Jesse emptied his empty pockets to show that he hadn’t shot anything as Dee asked, “Yeah, and who shot Will then?”

“I believe you,” I said and smiled over at Jesse.

“Now, see, I don’t think he has done it,” Zeth said.

“I’m gonna bet either Thomas, Jesse or Zeth in self defence or protection of the deputy,” I said. “But that’s just a guess. I’m just a detective, after all.”

“Thomas your gonna be okay,” Jesse called out as he left the clinic.

“He sure is, thank you for your help again, Jesse,” I said.

“Well he is hurt and he is cuffed so leave him be and let the law handle this,” Dee said.

“We’ll have the court figure this one out,” Zeth announced.

“Yes, I’m innocent,” Will said and I shrugged, focusing on Thomas, knowing my job was already done.

“You bet buddy. I got the best nurses and docs in town and my beautiful Trin to make sure I take care of myself,” Thomas said to Jesse and I smiled, caressed Thomas’ forehead.

“Sure, I’ll be dead some day for sure. But it will not be now,” Jesse said with a nod.

“Paperwork for you for the rest of the night, dear. No more gunfights,” I told him.

“Yes dear,” Thomas said and I chuckled.

“Ok, this will help you to keep still and not take any chances you do have a break and do not want it to slice into you lung ok?” Lilly said to Thomas. “It is important.”

“Yes doc,” Thomas said.

“Drink water and come back in a week if it begins to hurt more or you start getting a fever you come right back ok?”

“Yes doc. Does this mean I can be frolicking with Trin in the bard for a while?” Thomas asked.
I laughed a bit and leaned down to kiss him. “Only frolicking you’ll be doing is in the bedroom with lots of fluids.”

“Hello Doc, did you fix Thomas up were Jesse shot him?” Will asked as Lilly went over to him.

“Trin, can I help you get him back to a nice bed?” Jesse came over to us.

“Ooh! Don’t make me laugh dear, it hurts,” Thomas winced at the pain as he tried to laugh.

“He’ll be just fine, thanks to you. You really need to fill out an application to be a deputy as soon as your papers come through for citizenship.” I looked over at him and smiled. “We just live over in Bisbee. I’ll take him there to get some paperwork done and some rest.”

“Jesse you got a job in law if you ever want one,” Thomas told him.

“Just wish I had a horse and carriage or something…” I said.

“Zeth, Will is in your hands,” I told him. “Jesse’s already given Angel a statement. I’d like for you to write one out for Angel too.”

“Bisbee?” Jesse asked. “I’ll come either way, I can offer some protection on the way there. Besides, I have not yet been out of this town.”

“That’d be great, Jesse,” I thanked him.

Thomas tried to sit up and I told him to go slow as I helped him put his shirt on. Zeth asked me to help him and I told him I had to go home with Thomas. I said I was done for the night and Lilly insisted I needed to take Thomas home. I carried Thomas’ gun and we walked down the street to the sound of gunshots ringing in air again.

“Geez this town…” I muttered as we walked into Bisbee.

Bisbee.

I helped Thomas into the house and said, “To bed with you, dear. I’ll make you some tea. Or you can lay down on the couch if that’d be more comfortable.”

“Thank you so much love. I love you so much.”

I held his hand and kissed him deeply. “I love you too dear. I don’t like seein you get shot.”

“Let’s go to bed dear. I feel tired and want to get out of these blood soaked clothes.”

“Alright,” I said and helped get him upstairs past the sleeping children and into our bedroom. When I saw him checking on the kids and kissing them each goodnight, it made my heart melt and I waited for him in the bedroom.

“Gosh they are truly little angels baby,” Thomas said to me with wariness in his voice.

“They sure are.” I helped him into bed and lay down beside him with a sigh. “Busy night tonight... but I’m proud of how the law handled everything.”

“Yes, thank goodness for Jesse and Jy. They were a big help.” He eased into bed and looked over at me. “Are you ok baby?”

“We arrested Dominic, Nick and Anthony and got statements right away from people. Then when they shot you, we got statements from Jesse right away and hopefully Zeth. You better get a statement from Jy too, dear. About your shooting.”

“Yes I will for sure,” he said and we stopped all talk of work as we tiredly fell off to sleep.
