June 8, 1901

Tombstone.

I walked out of my office this afternoon and greeted Angel, Bella and Aspen. Ansar soon joined as well and we talked about how Bella was looking for a job so she could get a house for her and Sarah. She asked how the kids were and I told her that Natalie was finally sleeping better because she’d been drinking some of Cas’ tea that he’d given her. Ansar came over then and I asked them if they had any work for me.

“Vas a shooting at the courthouse but I vasn’t here,” Angel said.

“Oh was there?”

“I didn’t know,” Bella said.

“Yha but Amara vas here so vas her varrant.”

“I’ve been taking a few days at home… But I think I’m ready to get back to business. Last week was rough.”

“Vell that’s gut Trin,” Angel said. “Am glad iz getting easier.”

“It has to, right? I don’t have much choice.”

“Um, do you know of a man named Virgil Walker?” Bella asked as she looked at her hands.

“I can’t sit at home all day... I’ll get bored,” I said and winked at Bella.

“Oh yes I do. He’z a lawyer. I spoke to him about rolez in the law,” Angel said.

“Don’t believe I’ve met him yet,” I said.

“Ohh. I met him today. He seems nice,” Bella remembered.

“Right, cause all lawyers are nice.” I chuckled and winked at Angel.

“I do believe he’z looking to become a deputy in Benson,” Angel told us.

“Oh is he? Good to have more law, I s’pose.”

“He seemz like he’d do vell vith it.”

“Al still the sheriff in Benson? Or is it someone else now?”

“From vat I know it’s still Al but he’z never about.”

“Well, I just wanted your opinions,” Bella said and looked at Aspen, then lowered her voice a bit. “Did he seem charming to ya’ll?”

“As with our sheriff in Diamond. Wish Thomas could just be promoted to Sheriff,” I said with a nod to Angel.

“He seemz like a right minded fellow if you azk me. Az for charming I’m kinda stuck on Tater man,” Angel said and we laughed.

“Mr Tater’s the bestest Miss Angel,” Aspen agreed. “Next ta Jeffy anyway.”

“I’m just saying,” Bella said with a shrug.

“Always good to know the names around town. I just wish I had something to do…” I sighed. “Only case I’ve got potentially is a girl named Lucy who’s lookin’ for her sister. But I’ve barely got a description from her. All I know is her sister is a tall, thin woman with long black hair and a southern accent. Sound familiar to anyone?” I asked and looked around.

“Sorry Trin, I don’t know,” Angel said.

“Lucy’s last name is Wallick,” I said. “I ain’t even seen her since she came to me about the case. I wish I had more to go on. I don’t even have a name. Lucy’s parents wouldn’t even tell it to her tell.”

“So, medical, law and court, school, bank teller, and shop keeper,” Bella said as she thought about jobs.

“Well I’m going to head to Black Diamond and see if Thomas is keeping out of trouble.”

“Give Nat and Jimmy love from Bella and Sarah,” Bella told me.

“Will do, Bella. Thank you,” I said and waved as I headed back to Diamond.
