Tombstone.
This evening I walked down the street and looked over seeing James and Lisa in front of Kate’s, as usual. “Anything new, James?”
“Nope… all quiet… but I haven’t been here long…” James shook his head.
“How ya doin tonight?” Lisa smiled at me.
“Alright. Oh, we don’t have to worry about that bank robbery case in Diamond anymore,” I told James and then nodded to Lisa. “I’m better today, thank you.”
“Good to hear it,” Lisa smiled. “Bank Robbery ya say?”
“Oh?” James looked at me.
“Yeah they found the people who did it and don’t need our help anymore, I guess.”
“Oh, okay.”
“Yeah, found that out when I went there last night. And that Native man... Not the man I was afraid of. At least I’m pretty sure.”
“Good.”
“All signs were pointing to this Cherokee chief who had almost killed me before I moved out this way. One of those ghosts you never want rising up again, ya know?”
“Well, hopefully t wasn’t him….” he said. “Yes, I know about old ghosts....all too well.”
“Pretty sure the man was Apache, unless he was lying about that but... I’m hoping the coast is clear now.”
“Keeping my fingers crossed it will remain clear,” James said.
“Payton suggested it was because of what the kids were sayin’ to Swift Fox, about him being a savage. Mighta been an Apache coming to teach them a lesson over that, she said.”
“Oh okay…”
“Still no other witnesses on those other cases so we’ll just keep doing what we do.”
“Yes, we will,” he smiled.
“Alright well, I’ll keep you posted. Have a good evening, you two,” I said.
“Okay… you too,” James nodded.
I walked over to the hotel and waved to Sugar, Nim and Ben. “Hey everyone.”
“So how ya been, Nim?” Ben was asking her.
“Bored mostly when I am in this town, how about yourself?” Nim asked.
“The same mostly. Seems to be better around here in the afternoon.”
I looked over at Sugar and asked, “Did I already ask you if you were here this weekend for the fire? Think I did.”
“The fire? Guess I wasn’t,” Sugar looked at me.
“At the sheriff’s office on uh... Sunday I believe.”
“Must have been in Tucson.”
“Guess it was Saturday actually.”
“Nope, I wasn’t here.”
“And probably haven’t seen anything weird around the bank…” I looked over towards the bank.
“Nope, nothin’.”
“Alright. Gonna keep wanderin’,” I said and continued to walk through town.
