December 14, 1869

Georgetown.

I was walking around town this evening and met a couple named Lou and Leu Washington. Lou, the man, was a first Sergeant.

“So First Sergent, eh?” I smiled at the man.

“Yes. Tenth Cavalry.”

“Buffalo soldier.. ever hear of them?” Leu asked, looking proud.

“No, never have,” I shook my head.

“We are a all black command out of Leavenworth Kansas.”

“Oh I see. Well it’s good to have some other law types around.”

“I mostly work with the Indians,” Leu said. “Indian Affairs Department.”

“I know them well,” I nodded to him.

“Indian Affairs Department. Hopefully to keep the peace.”

“I’ve been trying to do that as well...” I said.

“Yes! My husband very good at what he does..” Leu looked at her husband.

“Trying to get to know them and encourage them to go to the law.. They seem to have their own type of justice,” I sighed, thinking of the chief’s attack.

“Yes, it’s not easy.”

“The chief, I have never dealt with him but heard that he has a mind of his own. And does as he pleases. We will see I guess.”

“I’ve tried to talk some sense into them but... They don’t seem to want my help...” I sighed, frustrated.

“Well I was told he will not listen to anyone and he tells his people to do the same.”

“I should go to the store and get some supplies and then perhaps wonder out there.”

“It’s hard dealing with someone like that.”

“It was good to meet you both. Perhaps we’ll have more talks about this, Sir?”

“Okay, be careful. Sure,” he nodded.

I thanked him and walked out to Nebraska to get food at the grocery store.
